http://www.sun-herald.com/NewsArchive2/122603/tp6ew6.htm?date=122603&story=tp6ew6.htm As a corporal, Henderson earned $43,304 -- and $1,300 was an education incentive based on a bogus college degree he claimed to have earned from Florida State University. But Florida State University doesn't sell its degrees online. Henderson supposedly believed that by buying a college degree from an Internet Web site for $599, that it would be legitimate. But not many legitimate schools offer "pocket-sized" degrees. "I believed it was real for five years," Henderson said when pressed about the degree during cross-examination at his trial earlier this year. Henderson resigned Feb. 24 -- three days after being compelled to answer questions about the diploma. He could have been arrested on a first-degree misdemeanor for the bogus degree. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement had been sent a notice indicating that Henderson resigned while under investigation for what would constitute a "moral character violation." Under state law, an FDLE commission can review the certification of law enforcement officers if allegations of moral character violations are sustained. After being questioned once for buying a degree online, Henderson did it again. Henderson paid $6,000 to another Internet company for two degrees from St. Regis University, a Liberia, Africa-based online firm. "I wanted to prove to myself I could get a real college degree," Henderson said during the cross-examination about buying more degrees online, instead of actually enrolling in a college.
> Henderson paid $6,000 to another Internet company for two > degrees from St. Regis University, a Liberia, Africa-based online > firm. Why so much? No SRU degree currently costs more than US$1500 (although you can pay extra for courses, and up to $1800 for "Apostille/Authentication"): http://saintregis.edu.lr/tuition.htm In May 2003, SRU was advertising a Bachelor/Master/Doctorate combination for US$2450: http://web.archive.org/web/20030529183123/www.saintregisuniversity.ac/tuition.htm
Good article. Either Henderson is a willful fraud or very foolish and needs an education on accreditation. John
Re: Saint Regis alum in the news again Mmm. Now looks like he's got plenty of time to start earning a real degree. Cheers, George
