Interesting statistics Nova is way up there in granting PHDs. http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d02/
Thanks. The table is a bit misleading as it lists some state universities by individual campus. Didn't notice any DL institution other than Nova.
Kind of surprising. I would have thought that with Nova being as high up as it was that more insitutions would realize that many students are looking for DL PHD programs. Guess we will have to wait for the 2003 stats.
Actually, this figure does not represent DL doctorates, since Nova Southeastern runs a brick and mortar campus in Florida and offers on-campus (non-DL) doctorates as well. This is also true of a number of institutions, such as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, that offer both DL and non-DL doctorates. In the printed version of Doctoral Recipients from United States Universities (a joint publication of the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Endowment for the Humanities, US Dept. of Ed., USDA and NASA) it gives the number of doctorates awarded by several criteria. It is interesting to note that some universities mentioned frequently on Degreeinfo (e.g. Union Institute & University & Capella) are not included. Of course, newly accredited schools, such as NCU would also not be included. Total 2001 doctorates conferred by universities mentioned frequently on Degreeinfo (those with substantial DL components)are included below. With the exception of Walden, there really is no way to determine how many of these were earned via DL without contacting the individual institutions). CALIFORNIA --- Fielding Graduate Institute (111) --- CA School of Professional Psychology - now part of Alliant International U. (170) --- United States International U. - now part of Alliant International U. (22) --- Saybrook Graduate School (26) FLORIDA -- Argosy U. (118) -- Nova Southeastern U. (469) MINNESOTA -- Walden U. (97) NEBRASKA -- U. of Nebraska-Lincoln (235) Tony Pina Faculty, California State U., San Bernardino
