"Al Leiter of the New York Mets took distance education courses while traveling with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Florida Marlins. He enrolled at Penn State in 1990 and earned his associate's degree in the summer of 1997." I'm surprised Penn State awards associate degrees.
IIRC, Darren Lewis was working towards his degree at UC-Berkeley while he was with the Red Sox, and took some DL courses during the baseball season.
My sister, a senior at Penn State's main campus, often says the same thing. She doesn't know anybody there that actually has one from Penn State.
Penn State's associate's degree in Letters, Arts & Sciences is one of the oldest regionally accredited external degrees in esixtence, and has been popular since the days when external was limited to correspondence courses. They have offered a broader range of degrees for quite a few years, but the AAS is a well-established oldie but goodie.
Penn State Associate The Associate degree is the only one I could afford, since tuition goes way up for upper-level classes. They've got some interesting certificate programs, but yikes, they're pricey.
You get what you pay for... Having taken courses at several community and online schools, including UoPhx (calling it UoP kinda insults the University of Pennsylvania or U of P) I can say that you get what you pay for with WorldCampus @ PennState. The classwork is no joke and I finish each course knowing more about the subject, materially, than when I began. I feel challenged and the advisors and teachers work with me to help me complete my educaiton. Its like having a private 1:1 class with each instructor with university caliber professors. Phoenix was a joke in comparison.
Re: You get what you pay for... Wow! - opinionated, aren't we? Perhaps you care to elaborate on the DL side of this board for those not in th know? - or have I missed your insights already? --Orson
Re: You get what you pay for... In Northern California, UOP means the University of the Pacific located in Stockton but with their dental school in San Francisco and law school in Sacramento. It is an old university with a fine reputation and beautiful old ivy covered buildings. I agree, kind of insulting.
