Both times LSU beat Georgia, UGA was in the top 10. The Soooners, with a big loss tonight, won't even be their conf. champions. I don't see how you can go to BCS having not won the conf. title. And how can margin of victory not be a factor in the computer calculations? The game only makes sense if it is USC vs. LSU. I know one thing, the Sooners could not have even stayed on the field with LSU tonight.
I agree Craig, but man that BCS is screwed up. They were talking on the sport shows like OU was in win or lose. This might finally be the death of the BCS.
Maybe Kansas State and Michigan would like a piece of the action - They are playing very well at the point. OU can point to USC and say "you lost to CAL !!!!" and LSU lost to a 4 loss team at HOME. On any given saturday...
I agree - it is a screwed up method. It worked last year, of course there were two undefeated teams then. I think Oklahoma should be on the sidelines watching LSU and USC playing. They blew it last night BIG TIME. They were totally destroyed by a team that was beaten by a middle-of-the-pack MAC team (Marshall) at home. I think there are 10-12 teams that can beat anyone, anytime. Some playoff system could be established - there is a month from now until the big bowl games.
LSU and USC both did lose games. But look at the margin of victory. LSU lost by a touchdown and I think USC lost by 3 in overtime. Anyway Oklahoma got demolished--this was a humiliating loss, unlike the USC or LSU losses which were anything but blowouts. LSU and USC lost early in the season when the teams are getting settled down: both teams were looking ahead to big games. Oklahoma lost in a conf. title game, a game you just don't look past at the end of the season. The Sooners should drop to number four or five in the polls. Georgia should drop to 9 or 10 but stay in the top ten. That would mean LSU vs USC.
LSU vs USC would be a good game. The PAC-10 is the only major conference not to win in the BCS scheme. Its their time.
I agree. I felt like Washington got screwed a few years ago when they beat Miami, and then Miami went to the BCS. PAC-10 teams don't seem to a fair deal on the rankings.
Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy.....LSU gets a much deserved break, and USC gets screwed and we end up with a split national title. LSU gets its first shot at a national title since 1958 and now we have to share it with USC. But what a game we are not going to see--USC vs. LSU, too bad.
these are students The goal of universities should be to produce scholars. What difference does it make whether there are "shared national titles"? Why does it sound like gambling and odds have created something other than the "scholar athelete"?
Get real man, they are full time athletes and part-time students - big difference between students and scholars, everyone is a student but not all are scholars. Most are there to showcase their talents in order to be drafted into the real money.
in a perfect world they would all be scholars. But it takes money to support research and scholarship. Where does the money come from? At a school like LSU a lot of it comes from football. LSU has done tremendous things in the last four years to build research and graduate programs. Like those cheap LSU DL classes? Thank the football team. LSU has moved from a mid-level also ran state school, in terms of academics, to a major research institution and engine for Louisiana business. Nick Saben has been at LSU for four years--four bowl games, three SEC championship runs, two SEC championships and now a national title game. What does it mean for research and academics at LSU? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
USC got screwed. USC is #1 in both polls, and is not playing in the National Championship. The BCS system will only survive if USC loses, but I bet this will be a BCS killer.
Navy won the championship the..... Commanders Cup. If the world was right one of two things would happen; Army would beat Navy or failing that either Navy or Army would beat Air Force. Army lost to Navy but at least Navy beat the Air Force so there is some solace in defeat. Next Year!
It's a no-brainer: The only team that beat USC vs. the only team that beat Oklahoma. Berkeley vs. Kansas State. Go Bears!
plcscott: What about the only team that beat LSU? Da Gators! John: Hey, maybe it's time to resurrect the idea of a three team playoff. This may have come from Howard Cosell 25 years ago. On the same day, Team A plays 2 quarters with Team B. Team A plays 2 quarters with Team C. Team B plays 2 quarters with Team C. If anyone wins twice, they're the champ. If each wins once, then there is some cumulative score formula.
