What an interesting news day this has been. The Massachusetts Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriages, Scott Peterson will stand trial for murder and Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch is swarming with police as a warrant has been issued after a 12-year old made accusations.

Hey Jimmy - Out of all the stories in the newspaper today you pick out three having to do with sex. What's with that? ;)

Hey, fellow "Free Stater." These seemed to be the major stories covered by Fox News, that's all. Plus, I believe Peterson is guilty and Jackson has escaped justice far too long. So, in a sense, I am pleased with these two stories. The other.......................

Yeah, the gay marriage thing is all over the news around these parts. I haven't paid too much attention to it though. Whenever it goes into effect I'm sure there will be lots of people flocking to Massachusetts to "tie the knot." I'm pretty much a "live and let live" sort of guy so I don't have any really strong feelings about it. However, this philosophy doesn't extend to murder and child abuse so I'll be looking for updates on the other two stories. See you around campus Jimmy. ;)

Michael Jackson would probably have lots of friends in prison. Close friends.

While I understand the humor, the reality is that he'd just pay them all to be his bodyguards. Get real.

Well, from what I have been hearing and reading, he is close to being broke. Remember, he spent fortunes buying rights to Presley's and Beatles' music, etc. I guess he didn't take the words to his hit Man in the Mirror too seriously, did he?

Sorry Jimmy, this stuff's not on my reading list. He might be broke but I'll bet you a UFS t-shirt that the "complaint" gets settled out of court for "an undisclosed sum," that goes to the kids family.

Let's hope not, if he's guilty.

I have a friend that has been molested by two different people. He has some major issues. I want to see Michael go down, I like his music, but as he has gotten whiter he has gotten odder. I think he should go to jail and his loose his 3 children...

Michael Jackson: Innocent or not, he is guilty of failing to learn from his past mistakes. I don't care where the iron hammer of the law falls this time.

Scott Peterson: He has been tried and convicted in the media. Nancy Grace has already handed him a death sentence. Chances are that the guy is innocent. Nobody knows what happened but I think that we should give him the benefit of doubt. If he really committed that crime, he should rot in hell.

Massachusetts Supreme Court Ruling: I hope that this will lead to only legalization of domestic partnership between two homosexuals or lesbians who choose to live as domestic partners. Should the law treat heterosexual marriage and homosexual marriage equally? The answer should be “No”. In a marriage, the word "wife" should continue to refer to the female partner and the word "husband" should be used exclusively to refer to the male partner. I hope that "male wife" and "female husband'' will never be added to the English lexicon. The world is changing very rapidly that no one can predict what will happen in the next couple of years. No matter where this ruling takes us, I just hope that the traditional family will not be assailed by supporters of gay marriage. The traditional family may be old fashioned but our continued existence hinges largely on heterosexual marriage. I hope that homosexual partnership will co-exist with heterosexual marriage. I also hope that the former will not threaten the latter.

Considering that the sheriffs only served their search warrant yesterday and had an arrest warrant today, they must have found something pretty good.

I agree. There are hundreds of murder cases out there. So why do the media have such a tremendous fixation on this one?

It seems to me that a compromise is possible as you have outlined.

Preserve the "marriage", "husband" and "wife" terms for heterosexual marriage. Doing that lessens the provocation for religious individuals for whom marriage is a sacrament, and it doesn't unnecessarily offend tradition. But create a new 'domestic partner' category under the law that carries with it whatever legal rights belong to the married state. (Taxes, inheritance etc.)

You left out what is probably the biggest story around here (at least before Jacko's child molestation charges).

    Hint:

The problem with this is that it is discriminatory. Only same-sex partnerships would be eligible.

That's an excellent point, IF it is true. What evidence do you have to support this assertion?

By preserve, do you mean legally? Should it be illegal for a gay man to call his partner his "wife?"

If so, what should the penalty be?

If not, how exactly do you propose to "reserve" this term?
