Aw c'mon, I'm interested--appalled, too. Whatever the hell was it
that supposedly qualified Saths Cooper to run a university? The endless coverup, the negation of reports, the random interference of Asmal--or maybe not-so-random, and the idiotic inability to come up with a name for the merged university: you know what, my china, as Paddy Bauler once said of Chicago, Durban "ain't ready for reform yet."

Of course, we won't even mention the nasty ethnic/racial politics of all this--except to say that when the dust clears, the NU component will have done a damn sight more to enfranchise rural and township blacks than UDW will have done.

 

Will this be the final installment of this story? Don't bet on it.

What step of the 12-step program are you supposed to be on now?

 

I believe that step #1 is related to the admission of powerlessness. I seem unable to let go of this story.
(that is, until the next one comes along)

Wow, Jack, thanks for another "there but for the grace of God go I" moment. I was thiiiiis close to going into a program at UDW... Whew.

As mal as they are, they keep getting wors.
