    Bachelor's degrees - $500

All three combo deal (suitably backdated) - $1,750

Given the above, what is the soonest this reputed university could expect to generate sufficient net to purchase Liberian accreditation?

    Not enough info given

Unfortunately, there is not enough data given in the problem. Even if one could set a fair market value price on Liberian accreditation (even if that value was $1), one would have to know something of the rate at which the degrees sell. You simply provided ratios that demonstrate at what rate the degrees sell in relation to each other. However, does said university sell 1 degree every 5 years or 5 days? This information is required to even formulate an idea of when it would have the available funds to purchase Liberian accreditation. Moreover, one would have to consider operating costs, both fixed and variable, in order to determine net profits which could then be applied to the cost of the accreditation.

The only possible method to arrive at an answer for your problem is to work under the assumption that the Liberian accreditation fair market value price is $0, which would yield a timeframe of 0 seconds in order to earn the necessary funds to obtain the accreditation. Any other case requires more information given.

    Congratulations Eric ! ! !
You've just qualified for a St. Regis doctoral degree in Mathematics!!!
If you will simply send $995.00 to cover packaging and handling expenses, they'll be sending that ol' diploma to the address of your choice (including P.O. boxes). Please specifiy the exact wording you'd like on the diploma (Latin is $10.00 extra).

It was really a trick question...

...the idea being that you could make up anything you wanted, then assert that it was the truth.

Examples are all around us. The Liberian Embassy stated that it will NOT verify the accreditation status of SRU, but SRU continues to claim that it will. UNESCO's IAU stated that SRU isn't going to be listed in the Handbook, but SRU says it will be there, and (further) that there is no inconsistency in its own and IAU's statements.

So here's a possible answer: the university president is a flying monkey, the moon is made of green cheese, 2+2=5, and the National Board of Education is only interested in quality, not in its $50k-a-pop fee. So Unnamed Quality University is already accredited.

A fine point: I bet the real Liberian Ministry of Education has nothing to do with NBOE. So it'd be kinder to refer to a sort of FakeLiberian accreditation. Maybe Liberianoid, Liberianesque, Flakerian, Falserian, Fakerian, Liberan-not, whatever.

My head spins. All I can think of is the carnival game I remember from decades ago at Palisades Park, NJ. Throwing balls to knock over milk bottles. Sign said: "Balls, three for a dime, six for a quarter." Most people chose six. And now they're buying St. Regis degrees.

Doesn't Liberia have some kind of "No Money Down, 90 Days Same as Cash," type deal? Or perhaps "Rent-to-Own?"
