Does anybody have opinions or personal knowledge in using Endnote or Reference Point software? Thanks
Reference Point Software I used Reference Point Software with Microsoft Word XP and Microsoft Windows 2000; it does the APA style. I found it quite helpful. However, it is still primarily up to you to know the style; if you don't know the style, you won't get the correct results. Also, of you don't know the style, you won't know what to write down in the library so you'll have all the information needed for the end note. Also, check their web site and either buy it direct, or make sure your bookstore has the current version. I bought a stale version from the University of Vermont bookstore, but Reference Point Software made it right when I called customer service.
I've just started using Endnote and I think it is great. Granted, I've not used this type of software before so have nothing to compare it with, but it sure beats the hell out of typing in your citations each time, or cutting and pasting from other docs. I have just started my PhD but I have collected, over the years, over 40 books and 150 jounal/newspaper articles and I've entered the lot into Endnote. Endnote also allows you to directly tansfer in citations from many data bases. For example, from your desk, you can search something like ProQuest (an academic jounal article database), in many cases print out a hard copy of the article, and with a few more clicks direct export those citations into Endnote. This is magic. By the end of my study I could conceivable have 1,000 citations, or more. I've only scratched the surface of the program so far, but I know it is going to make things a whole lot easier. I can't comment on Reference Point. Hope this helps
This direct import feature saves heaps of time. On a single visit to ProQuest of Web of Knowledge, I might select 10 or more articles, then "click" all the citations magically appear in Endnote. Kind regards
I use Ref. Point Software... I use Ref. Point Software for all my papers. It saves me a heap of time and I don't have to be constantly plowing through the APA Manual. I've heard that End Notes is not for writing papers as far as APA formatting is concerned. It is primarily, I've been told, for organizing your citations quickly. Just the fact that it save time by exporting citations from databases is worth the price. I think Capella U. is selling it for around $50 currently to its grad students.
If you want to quickly create APA or MLA citations use noodletools.com, it is on a subscription basis $4/ quarter or $12 a year. Much easier than flipping pages in the APA manual. (this is sort of the APA automatic). Manual / Automatic, I kill myself, the others at the Mensa meeting will love that!

EndNote appears to be much more powerful than Reference Point. Of course, you pay for that power. EndNote costs about three times as much as Reference Point. Still, if all you really want is a formating template, paying $27.95 once for Reference Point may come out cheaper than paying $4/quarter or $12/year, if you think you would use it a lot.

Do you ever e-mail a paper to an instructor, or otherwise give it to the instructor in electronic form? If so, what format do you put it in. I'm not a member of the Billy Gates Fan Club either.
