Perhaps I'm confused, but it seems like the threads have been jumbled up since Degreeinfo returned to the airwaves.

Where the system used to display posts in the order received, it now seems to be displaying them according to the time they (supposedly) were made. Unfortunately, the times recorded on posts seems to be neither accurate nor uniform.

I realized the same thing a couple of days ago in the thread entitled "Doctoral RA Counseling program" on the DL forum. I sent a pm to Chip at that time so he is aware of it (although it's clear that this is a bigger problem now then when I notified him).

There seems to be a number of problems currently existing on Degree Info. Saturday I could only post once. After that I kept getting the message about the admin only allowing users to post every 60 seconds although I hadn't posted but once that day and hours had passed. Then, yesterday, the message changed from 60 seconds to 75 seconds. Today, however, with the exception of the time delay problem, I am able to post.

Another problem concerning the times recorded on the posts:

I made a reply to a new thread of Henrik's on the accreditation forum. It was the third post on the thread, subsequent to Henrik's original post and a reply of Unk's. But my post somehow appeared as the first post on the thread.

I decided to delete the misplaced post, adjust my control panel from pacific time (GMT-8) to GMT, and try posting it again.

Bad mistake. Apparently deleting the first post in a thread (even if it wasn't made first) deletes the entire thread.

So my apologies to both Henrik and Unk for vaporizing your posts, and to everyone else that wanted to read them.

Moral of this sad story: If Degreeinfo in its incomprehensible but nevertheless infinite wisdom decides to make a reply of yours the first post in an existing thread, for heaven's sake don't delete it.

I just assumed it was part of the strategy against those who don't much like this place.
Or perhaps a stategy to confuse shills who do (too much) like this place.

Oh shucks, I thought that some of the DegreeInfo members (like me) had become so super humanly powerful that we could respond to posts before they were ever made. Another shattered dream that I guess I'll have to learn to get over.

    Whoops.

That's OK--Henrik was just trying to squirm out from under Coleman Nyathi's dismissal. He said Nyathi got sacked because of using government money for his "degree". I pointed out that the same ANC press release that mentioned that use of government money said specifically that Nyathi timebombed with an unaccredited degree genuinely obtained from KU and that his other degrees from "obscure British universities" (!) weren't verifiable at all. Government money wasn't the issue at all.

    He also flamed Jeff Hampton.

Now Henrik's mad that the thread got zapped. Go figure.

Sorry, the confusion arises because part of the DegreeInfo site is on a server physically located on the west coast, while two other parts are located at different data centers on the east coast. I don't think the time on the west coast server (which used to house the entire site) was ever correct, so I'm guessing that the problem with out-of-order posts probably relates to the timing being out of sync between the servers.

We're going to be fixing that soon :)

As to the "no posting" problem that Jimmy reported, I have no idea what happened there, but I changed it from 60 to 75 seconds to force it to rewrite the value to the config file... which seems to have solved the problem.

    To GMT or not GMT

I am confused too by the use of "GMT". At present, the time GMT ("Greenwich Meant Time") posted at the foot of the thread page is 01.30 am. In Edinburgh it is 09.30am! Yet we are within a hour of GMT in the UK.

Something is wrong, unless "GMT" means something different in North America.

I raised this before but got a few funnies in reply. What does Degreeinfo mean by GMT?
