Roots of political ambition run deep for 'Austrian Oak' In 1979, the actor earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Beth George, a university spokeswoman, said he completed an individualized, distance-learning program in international marketing of fitness, with a secondary focus in business administration. Under the program, Schwarzenegger earned an undisclosed number of credits for "life experience." I wonder how his "life experience" was assessed?
When a student is considered by most to be the best in world at what they do, it shouldn't be a difficult assessment.
It seems to me that a California governor with a DL degree could be a very positive thing for public perception of DL in general.
Excellent point! Considering how desperate the Davis & Bustamante camps have become, I'm surprised they haven't tried to make an issue of this.
Actually, Bustamante was challenged for having earned credits for a speech course that he never actually took. Apparently Bustamante went back to school in the early 90s after his political career was already in full swing and was granted credit by the instructor without having done a formal portfolio or other PLA. When asked about it last week the now retired instructor said he believed given the number of speeches that Bustamante had given that he was ocnfident that Bustamonte possessed the minimum qualifications that would have earned him a passing grade. It seemed to die down fairly quickly so is not likely to be an issue, but interesting nonetheless! Mary
My take: Both sides appear to be desperate. Schwarzenegger's camp was the first side to acuse Bustamante of earning credits without attending classes. Bustamante's camp then responded in kind. Accusations and counteraccusations are boomeranging and ricocheting between the two camps as the recall election nears. Does Anord really admire Adolf and his NAZI ideology? I am confused. . Ike
I understand the Bustamante did not complete college. If Bustamante becomes govenor who becomes Lt Govenor?
Esteemed Dr Ike: Indeedy doo. Gustav Schwarzenegger, its father, now dead, never an American citizen, was a Nazi. Ahnuld isn't. However, Cruz says "everything for the race, nothing for those outside the race." Die Fahne hoch, boys!
First, I saw the debate and have seen clips of Bustamante giving speeches. He was and is terrible as a debater and speaker. Second, Arnold DID NOT defend Hitler. The full text of the speech revolves around how a "nobody" rose to be a "somebody," albeit a horrible "somebody." Arnold is known for giving millions of dollars to Jewish causes. Third, Arnold apologized for his maltreatment of women. Some accuse Republicans of having a double standard for not going after Arnold like they did Clinton concerning women. Most of us condemned Clinton's lying and we disgusted with his disrespect of and for women. Had Arnold not admitted previous bad behaviors we would be condemning him too.
Here is a link about Arnold's Hitler statements. You will notice there were two transcripts of the interview and a comment made that it was hard to understand exactly what Arnold said because of his "thick German accent." Funny how ABC News only advanced one account of the interview. Leave it to Fox News to be "fair and balanced."
Bruce: When a student is considered by most to be the best in world at what they do, it shouldn't be a difficult assessment. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Agreed. 6 units of sex education for activities with starlets. 9 units of physiology for work in the steroids lab. 9 units of heterosexual plumbing for . . . no, I won't go there.
Don't worry, there's still time. I think that the Davis/Bustamante people were shocked by the latest poll results which showed Davis being recalled handily and Schwarzenneger opening a commanding lead. Gray Davis has a reputation as a ruthless and dirty attack-campaigner. That's one reason why many Californians don't like him. If you oppose Davis, somebody is apt to try to destroy your reputation. It's happened repeatedly in the past. I fully expect a lurid unfounded allegation to be trumpeted all over the media right before the election. My guess would be Sunday night. Prime time TV, with enough time for the media to stroke it to a climax on Monday, but not enough time for Schwarzenneger to reply effectively, leaving him (so Davis and Bustamante hope) looking tainted and defensive on election day, Tuesday. That could backfire bigtime if the electorate recoils from it. But given those poll results, Davis probably figures that he's got nothing to lose. As you say, he's desperate, and he's the kind of guy who's dangerous when cornered.
Knowing full well polls can say anything a biased pollster desires, the latest poll in CA shows that 56% believe the allegations against Arnold are attempts to destroy him, 10% who were going to vote for him aren't and 12% who weren't going to vote for him are. So, he gains two per cent. I don't know what the margin of error is but it really looks like nothing has really changed. Arnold is still postured to win. The Davis camp has increased its pressure on Bustamante to drop out. He says "Nunca!"
LOL. If we applied the same credential evaluation process to all politicians, sports personalities and entertainers, we would have a legion of non-traditional degree holders. President Clinton would surely have merited a doctorate based on "life experience" Sorry...couldn't help myself... Tony
This is discussed somewhere else on here. Some articles say City and some say State. The definitive answer seems to be Fresno State.
