This is an interesting article and and IRS nightmare, I think. I have never been a fan of megachurches. Many of the new members of my church have come from some megachurches out of Indianapolis. The main complaint is that while being entertained they were not "fed," and when faced with the crises of life they were spiritually ill prepared. There is a growing (pardon the pun) trend in my area of people leaving the megachurches en masse for a more traditional, quiet, respectful worship that feeds the soul.

    Good point, Jimmy.

I've heard some say that attending the mega churches was like going off to a concert on Sunday. The pastor was a star, a celebrity, and he/she only invited other stars to share the pulpit.

For the most part, the members did not know their pastor on a personal level.

A number of the pastors in churches like these have body guards.

Just to make this somewhat relevant to the general purpose of this board, many of these megachurches house their own Bible colleges and seminaries. The bodyguard scenario is very scary. I see the bodyguards when watching some of these preachers and the bodyguards look very scary. What a far cry from the Twelve Disciples following Jesus around. Of course Peter did cut off the Roman soldier's ear, ha!

True. Some have pretty good programs that are accredited. Consider Jack Hayford and John McArthur.

Was Liberty University birth out of Falwell's Liberty Road Baptist church?

Incidentally, I hear that Falwell can remember the names of most of his members.

I think so. I never was a Falwell fan. I miss Lloyd Ogilvie's "Let God Love You" program. I have most of his books and he is so excellent. He's a Calvinist but his writings are prolific and thought-provoking. Most of today's t.v. preachers don't impress me. I do enjoy watching T.D. Jakes, though. The Schullers are not bad. Can't stand James Kennedy. Jack Hayford is boring. Always look forward to the Billy Graham crusades but these won't be around too much longer as he is really failing. I came to Christ at age 11 watching one of his crusades.
