    Hi Everyone!

I am thinking about creating a discussion board for my Doctoral research class - open to everyone - about anything regarding Quantative and Qualitative Research. Can anyone guide me on how to do this?

    Thanks.

Check what your university information services department has to offer. Whatever you do, don't use a service that pops up browser windows.

Honestly, my best advice is: Don't bother...unless already have 5-10 people who would realistically particpate on a daily basis.

Maintaining interest in a discussion board requires a certain minimum number of posts. I don't know what that number is, but I am quite sure that it is significantly above 2 (based on my experience). And that does not count posts from the administrator. Trying to generate and maintain posting on a new board can be very difficult.

You would be building from the ground up, and unless you are extremely skilled at search engine placement, already have some authority/connections among those who would be very interested in your subject, or have some money to put into marketing, that is extremely difficult.

And even then, God forbid, it is successful. Your adminstrative responsiblities will require 10 hours or more (possibly much more) per week. Plus some possibly significant costs. If you can place some ads, maybe you will break even.

If it were me, I would simply focus on my disseration, and find the support venues already available online. But that's just me.
