Capella graduate receives licensure in clinical psych

    ...Clinical psychology licensure requirements vary from state to state and year to year. To become eligible for the licensure exam in Washington, Johnson was required to complete a doctoral program that includes 750-hours of clinical residency, and pass written and oral exams. "The whole process of graduate education is overwhelming as a whole. The only way to manage it is to take one small piece at a time," Johnson said. During his preparation for the exam, Johnson frequently verified his progress with the Washington State Board of Psychology.

    "The only hang-up was that Washington required an additional 250 hours of residency while Capella only required 500. I approached Bill Percy, PhD, director of residency, for suggestions on how to earn the additional hours. Bill helped arrange a consultation project on the subject of assessing the effectiveness of a competency-based curriculum. This project eventually led to his dissertation research project. "Using instruments based on the examination for professional practice of psychology (EPPP) and the Carkhuff empathic understanding scale, I measured the competency of students in eight content categories and their clinical behavior as reflected in empathy skills during the clinical psychology year in residence program."...

    What is your Ph.D. from Capella in?

    I'm doing mine in Family Psych.

    My program was Education - Instructional Design. My 20 year career background is in information technology. Most of those years focusing on developing and managing GIS applications and projects. My MS is in Information Management.
