I was driving back from lunch this afternoon and remembered that someone had asked about hypnotherapy training through DL and had posted a school they asked about. I did a search and could not find the thread. The only accredited school of hypnosis that I know about is the one accredited by DETC. They have courses on VHS, written materials, etc. In order to become certified you must be supervised by a qualified person. I think they are certified as meeting qualifications throught the AFL-CIO or something. http://www.detc.org North
Re: Re: DL Hypnotherapy School That is correct. He was hypnotized into believing he was Robert Blake and then played Hoffa in the movie by the same name but unbeknownst to himself he was actually playing himself. North (whose has heard interesting stories by therapists of successful use of hynosis but is also skeptical................especially in regard to repressed memory syndrome).
As a trained and practicing hypnotherapist, North, I appreciate your skepticism. Repressed memory - a crock. Does hypnosis provide a meaning addition to therapy - in some cases yes, in some cases no. I use it in smoking cessation -- works wonders if the patient really wants to quit. In weight loss - again, works wonders if the patient really wants to lose weight. And, it is very beneficial in PTSD treatment. To practice hypnosis without training in psychotherapy, would, in my opinion be extremely dangerous.
In some cases to practice it with psychotherapeutic training is dangerous (repressed memories). I do agree with you about the seeming value of it. When I was doing my internship I worked with two licensed therapists who practiced Hypnotherapy with some of their clients. Both were quite down to earth people. Both could cite case after case where breakthroughs with clients were achieved through the use of hynosis and it intrigued me. I would like to study it more when I am done with my doctoral program. This detc school has an interesting program but no VA or Federal aid available. North
North, *Sit very very still. *You are growing tired. *You are getting sleepy. *In a moment you will be asleep. *When I snap my fingers you will awaken, and the following will have been accomplished: 1) You will have your doctorate in counseling. 2) You will no longer struggle with skepticism regarding hypnosis. 3) You will eliminate all repressed memories. 4) BUT, ALAS, you will remain a DegreeInfo addict. Perhaps shock treatment will help with #4.
