    WorldCampus Penn State Psychology

    Hello!

I am considering applying to Worldcampus. I read somewhere that it's not exactly Penn State university but more like an association of colleges? So, for example, one may get a BA in business and the degree will be from Michigan uni? If so, does anyone know from what university the BA Psychology in arts and science come from?

I really need to know if they are internationally accredited.

I am a total newbie when it comes to US universities!

    Thank you!

The Penn State University System has several campuses that are their own, independent universities, but they are all called Penn State University. The city is attached to the end of the name to distinguish between the campuses. When you earn a degree through World Campus, your degree will come from the campus that houses the degree program. So, you may or may not earn your degree from the highest-ranked Penn State campus, which is the one in University Park.

In the U.S., many public universities belong to a system of colleges that fall under one governing board even though each university/college is independent. For example, Texas has Texas A&M, University of Texas, University of Houston, Texas Tech, and other public university systems. Within those systems are independent colleges and universities. Some of them will have the system name plus the city attached to the end. Texas A&M, College Station is the highest-ranked university in the Texas A&M System. Examples of other Texas A&M schools are Texas A&M, Commerce and Texas A&M, San Antonio. There are other universities in the system with different names such as West Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M. In the University of Texas System, you have University of Texas at Austin (highest-ranked school), University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, etc. All of the schools in that system start with "University of Texas."

There is no international accreditation. In the U.S., we have institutional accreditation (accreditation for the whole college) and programmatic accreditation (accreditation for certain programs or departments with certain types of programs). There are two types of institutional accreditation: national and regional. National accreditors accredit certain types of colleges nationwide. Regional accreditors only accredit colleges in their region. Generally, since regional accreditors have higher standards and regional accreditation is more difficult to obtain, regional accreditation has wider acceptance within the U.S. and internationally. All of the schools in the Penn State System have regional accreditation.

I should clarify that there are some schools that have campuses in different cities and even different states, but those satellite campuses are not separate schools. For example, Texas State University has a main campus in San Marcos and a satellite campus in Round Rock. They're both accredited as one college. There are other schools in the Texas State University System, such as Sam Houston State University and Lamar University , that are accredited separately from Texas State University.
