Free Online Medical and Nursing Courses

I think we should have our own sticky here, so I'll start it off with

PCE | All Free Online CE & CME Activities for NPs and PAs

    CEUs available. Evidence based.

Practicing Clinicians Exchange (PCE) is an innovative, multisupported, multichannel educational initiative created specifically for nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs). Launched in 2006, this unique continuing education program provides live, home study, and Internet-based educational opportunities designed to meet the real-world clinical needs of NPs and PAs.

We already have a sticky thread for free courses in the main forum. If you'd like I can move your contribution there.

LIsting of CEUS Free for various health professions

I like his idea of a separate post for CEUS/CME that are free online for various healthcare professionals.CEUS can be expensive. Some like Medscape.com offer free CEUS/CME for Nurses, Pharmacists, and Physicians. Others that offer free CEUs for Psychologist , Professional Counselors(NBCC), Substance abuse professionals and others are harder to find.
Many readers of this post are in healthcare. It would nice to have a post for this. So if you see any free CEUsCME available for:
    Nurses
    mental health counselors
    Psychologists
    Substance abuse and alcohol counselors
    PAs
    OTs
    Pts
    Respiratory therapists
    Social workers
to name a few let us know!

Free health literacy courses from the CDC

Find Training | Health Literacy | CDC

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, Title V, defines health literacy as the degree to which an individual has the capacity to obtain, communicate, process, and understand basic health information and services to make appropriate health decisions. Anyone who needs health information and services also needs health literacy skills to

    Find information and services
Communicate their needs and preferences and respond to information and services
Process the meaning and usefulness of the information and services
Understand the choices, consequences and context of the information and services
Decide which information and services match their needs and preferences so they can act

The CDC offers very complete courses on STDs: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Syphilis, Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Vaginitis. Some of the material is clinical (eg: antibiotic dosages) but the rest is very relevant to public health and other non-clinical providers.

The log-in page: Login - Online Registration and Accreditation (TCEOnline) - CDC

You can create a new FREE account here.

    The Participant Services page: TCEOnline

    Search for courses here.

For example: Self Study STD Module: Chlamydia (Web-based) (WB2434)

I was disappointed that there was no discussion of the link between HPV and oral cancers Over the past decade there has been at least a four- to five-fold increase in the number of oropharynx cancers in the US and this increase is linked to a strain of HPV. cf: http://www.mountsinai.org/…/head-an…...er/hpv/hpv-faq

    Community Health and Disease

    Community Health and Disease Course
    :

CDC TRAIN - LMS Software by KMI Learning https://cdc.train.org/DesktopModules...rseid=1005187&

This excellent, 6 hour course that discusses the leading causes of death in the US (using "Years of Potential Life Lost" criteria) in terms of:

    the physiology and pathophysiology of the organ systems involved;
    individual- and population-level causes and behavioral determinants of disease;
the patterns of disease occurrence in populations; and
individual- and community-level strategies for prevention.

Firearms as a TOPLL is NOT included.

Users should be aware of the annoying software requirements for courses from the South Central Public Health Training Center

Many of these courses require Java. Java version must be current. User must approve the use of Java on the site. The url for the course must be entered into "exception" on the Java Control Panel. (Note Java has NOTHING to do with "Javascript")

Any pop-up blocker must be OFF.

Microsoft Silverlight must be installed (free download)

The SCPHTC has a device for testing your system to determine if the course will run properly. However I have not found it to be a reliable predictor. The "Help" team at SCPHTC, however, are nice and helpful.

Free online CME courses from Stanford Medical School. Some of these are free; others have a nominal fee ($25)

    https://med.stanford.edu/cme/learnin...es/online.html

I have completed: "Prescription Drug Misuse and Addiction: Compassionate Care for a Complex Problem", "You’ve Called 911, Now What? A Simplified, Evidence-based Approach to Six Life-Threatening Office Emergencies", and "Thinking Critically: Interpreting Randomized Clinical Trials". Pretty good.
