    Got accepted- University of Alabama

I've been away from the forums for a while, new baby and work at the hospital was keeping me pretty busy since we shut down our old hospital and moved into a new facility (Logistical nightmare, not fun, I don't recommend it). However, I'm going back to get my graduate certificate in Environmental Health & Safety from the University of Alabama.

I don't start until Spring '16, but I'm looking forward to the experience.

Thanks guys. I've been eyeing this program for about 3-4 years, so I'm glad I got in. UA utilizes Blackboard, which I have never used as all my other programs used Angel or Moodle.

Congratulations! I prefer Moodle to Blackboard, but not by a large margin, and you shouldn't have any trouble unless you use a Chromebook or certain Linux distributions. (I really do prefer Canvas, though.)

Way to go! Black Board is not so difficult if you understand the other LMS programs.

I just wondered because we just closed Memorial and moved everyone to downtown. :)

Yeah with the earthquake retrofit legislation, a lot of older campuses are closing and opening new facilities. In many cases it cheaper to build new than it is to retrofit old.

I haven't updated this forum thus far, so here are some of my observations about the EHS program at UA:

    - Application process was pretty straight forward.
    - Online students are on a 16 week semester system (Kinda a bummer if your like me and prefer the quarter system to get done faster).
    - Coursework is completed via Blackboard.
    - Weekly assignments include; professor led (pre recorded) video lecture, weekly readings, and a short 2 page paper worth 5 points per week.
    - There is a discussion board, but beyond week one for introductions I haven't seen it used since.
    - Two hour midterm.
    - Two hour final.

I decided going in to only take one class at a time. That was my choice based on current life circumstances and subsequent time restraints, but you can take as many classes per semester as you want to.

The only bad things I've discovered about this program include the following:

    - Papers and assignments don't get graded very quickly. Some of my assignments/ papers were submitted 3-4 weeks ago and they still haven't been graded.
    - For military students, their VA certification process is also very slow. I've had to submit the same documents two and three times over. Seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. But in all honesty, that is SOP for veterans at most colleges.

Sorry the delay in updating this thread, but I started a new job (relocated out of state), my daughter just turned 2, and we also have a new baby so I've busy, busy, busy.

    Thanks for the update!

It is a bummer to hear their VA certification process is slow.

My professor finally graded EVERYTHING for the entire semester on the final week. I have to say it's an unnerving way to proceed through the entire semester not knowing where you stand.
