Has anyone pursued a master's degree in nursing via DL? I'd like to hear your experience and some suggestions on the best place of study. I've been interested in studying with Dominguez Hills in CA.

  2. I don't know anything about nursing, but I do know something about Goofee, which is a software tool for embedded systems. Goofee was developed by Barry Kauler, who never really explained what the acronym meant. Here are some of the suggestions made by the user community:
    • Graphical Object Oriented Flow for Embedded Engineering
Gradual Obfuscation Operation Facilitating Eternal Employment
Get Off On Firing Every Engineer
Giant Ostriches Outperform Fastest Electronic Engineers
Gonna Outsource Our Fairly Easy Endeavours
Gratefully Offer Our Facilities Every Evening
Got Outta that Office Fast, Expecting Expletives
Generally Order Ours From Eating Establishments
Go Over Old Faxes Editing Events
Generic Object Orientated Framework for Eliminating Errors
Gotten Over Our Failures, Enhancing Earnings
      GOod Old Fashioned Engineering Eccentricities
Gagging Over Other's Feeble Engineering Excuses
Golfing On Our Free Extra Evenings
Generic Object Oriented Flow Engineering Engine
Graphical Object-Oriented Framework for Embedded Engineering
Gui Ordered Objects Facilitating Embedded Embellishment
Gonna Order Ours Free Encouraging Employment
Graphical Object Oriented Flow Engineering Environment
Graphical Object Orientation For Embedded Engineers
Glorious Object Oriented Federative Engineering Enterprise
Global Object Oriented Federative Engineering Energy
Go Object Oriented For Embedded Engineering
General Object Orientation For Embedded Engineering
Generally Object Oriented For Embedded Engineering
Good Or Otherwise File Examining Procedure
Gone Over Other's Files Enjoying Everything
Great Object Oriented Foodstuffs for European Equines
Evidence enough that “engineers are nerds” as the public has always known!

While you are the first admitted nursing student, there are several CSUDH students and one administrator (CSUDH HUX program not this board administrator) so you should be able to get some help.

Suggestion: start by asking specific questions.

    Hi, Goofee. Welcome to Degreeinfo.

I'm a CSU Dominguez Hills graduate, but I have no personal experience with the distance learning MS in Nursing.

    http://dominguezonline.csudh.edu/programs.php

But from what I hear, it has a pretty good reputation. I believe that it is the descendant of the Statewide Nursing Program that CSUDH has offered by distance learning inside California since 1981. So they have some experience offering nursing programs at a distance.

The website has separate pages for in-state and out-of-state applicants, but I believe that the biggest difference between them is that out-of-state students pay more while in-state students are subsidized by state funds. Out-of-state tuition is still a real bargain though, I hear. I would guess that it's one of the less expensive options out there. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN).

In California, the California State University is kind of the people's system, compared to the more scholarly research oriented UC. That's why the CSU has led UC into adult, continuing and distance education. It won't blow people off their feet with its wonderfulness, but considering that there are something like a million and a half CSU graduates floating around everywhere, it certainly won't embarrass you either. It's a known quantity.

My experience was with the humanities external degree, but if the nursing program follows the same pattern, the people are very nice and helpful.

You can probably find quite a few other good programs as well, but I liked my CSUDH experience.

Thanks Bill! That's some great insight and exactly what I was hoping to hear from someone. As a side not... I couldn't find their tuition rates anywhere on the website. Is that something they state after you apply?

It does take some work to dig it out but in general the costs are:

    Fees: $459/ 3 credit course
    Non-Resident tuition: $246/3 credit course

Plus books and supplies and access fees fo about $50 (+/-).

Thanks Mike! Not bad considering I'll be out of state. It's pretty comparable to other Master's program costs.
