Hi, are there any certifications people people with a Masters in Psychology? i only know of LPC licensed professional counseling which the degree has to be counseling in content in my state which is in Georgia and CRC Certified Rehabilitation Counseling
Addictions Counseling Certification? How about an addictions counseling certification? http://www.naadac.com/ http://www.caadac.org/ http://www.ccapp.us/
Thanks Are there more? also anyone here knows about CRC counseling do rehabilitation counselors deal with mental health/disabilities?
Your problem is that you didn't complete a program that is geared toward practice. These include the required practicum. After that, you need to complete a lengthy internship. Georgia is very flexible in the types of degrees it accepts for marriage and family therapy, but a practicum or internship needs to be part of the program. You do have the option of completing a practicum in a post-master's program. http://rules.sos.state.ga.us/docs/135/5/06.pdf It looks like becoming certified in addictions counseling is voluntary in Georgia. However, I suggest obtaining certification from ADACBGA. They are a member of IC&RC, so their credentials will have reciprocity in states that do require certification and recognize IC&RC credentials. ADACBGA- Alcohol and Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia
i already am volunteering at a mental health agency for children and about to be hired. i'm trying to find what certifications that i can get with a masters in psychology right now i'm working on my bachelors in psychology
That link to NAADAC is not the right website. Since you are in Georgia, I would not go through a certification board in California. NAADAC | The Association for Addiction Professionals The Georgia Addictions Counselor Association works through NAADAC. Georgia Addiction Counselors Association - However, in this field, IC&RC is more important for licensure purposes. My state requires chemical dependency counselors to be licensed. They work through IC&RC. IC&RC credentials are the mostly commonly named in substance abuse counselor job ads. IC&RC - About IC&RC's Credentials Since addictions counseling certification might be optional in your state, I don't know if Georgia employers will expect you to be licensed as something else i.e. LPC, LMFT, LCSW, etc.
Since you don't yet have a master's, you should look for a graduate program that can lead to licensure.
I did find a university that offers a masters in clinical rehabilitation counseling. http://www.thomasu.edu/Content/Default/4/275/256/51/0/0/0/academics/graduate-programs/clinical-rehabilitation-counseling---ms-%28online%29.html it prepares students to be seated for the LPC and CRC exam. i'm trying to find a little more about rehabilitation counseling. it says on the CRCC website they help people with disabilities including emotional, cognitive, mental and psychical disabilities. each counselor has a specialization i plan on continuing to work in social services like i am doing now but want certification in LPC or CRC our executive director has LPC she doesn't practice though and has EdD degree
After i gain more experience i plan on becoming an coordinator. i've read that a degree in counseling will be more flexible than a degree in psychology. i've seen that here in my state and city the agency employes counselors but there are also people that are supervisors with masters. my supervisor that is the coordinator for the children division is a LPC. i also have disabilities/mental disorders myself i'm wanting to teach the kids that people with disorders can still succeed and i can teach them how to cope. my co-workers didn't know i had a lot of disorders and asked how do i cope with it i'm doing good and said i can really help the children.
Well most states have a general psychotherapist licensure eligible for MHC/PC grads but also master's in psychology and MSW grads in some cases. You'll have the check the specific laws of your state. In almost all cases, you need a behavioral science master's with clinical practicum. You can also be certified in certain therapeutic modalities (e.g. applied behavioral analysis, neurofeedback, EMDR, MBCT) that often require a master's or higher too.
Psychology is the study of the human mind and its functions. Psychology certificates and diplomas require undergraduate or graduate program enrollment.
