    Hi there,

I have been searching far and wide for a foreign distance learning-based psychology degree...I know UNISA has a degree but it is not course-based. It is dissertation-based, which means it would be mostly useless in the US.

I want to teach psychology and maybe eventually, think about getting licensed as a therapist--I am totally aware that there is a lot required for licensure and it is a long road but my first step is to find a decent, low-cost psychology graduate degree so I can start my educational training.

    Does anyone know of anything?

    Thanks!

Wow, isn't getting licensed the traditional way hard enough? DL students have it hard--it's tougher to get your hours on your own. Non-APA students have a tough time in many states, too. Non-APA DL students (all of them but Fielding?) really have it tough. Foreign grads? Even tougher. But a U.S. student taking a foreign doctorate and trying to get clinical hours/opportunities with certainly no help from the home campus and taking a degree not at all designed to meet licensing requirements and doesn't prepare them for the licensing exam? Wow. Good luck with that. Be sure to broach this subject with any school you consider.

    Some more info

I understand the hurdles I'll face. I should rephrase it: I'm looking for a decent, low-cost, course-based graduate degree program in psychology (master's, ph.d. or psy.d.). I want to just understand what might be out there.

So, other than UNISA, is there any other foreign online degree in psychology (low-cost)?

As you're considering becoming licensed as a therapist in the future, I would suggest pursuing a graduate degree through a U.S. school. It will make your life much easier when trying to get a license to practice psychology.

However, if you decide that you only wish to teach, then you have many more options available to you (including UNISA and other schools with dissertation-only programs).

As for U.S. based schools (with regional accreditation), the cheapest online MA in Psychology that I could find was through American Public University (currently $12,675 for 39 credits).

    Evaviva,

In that you did not give a specific area of studies interest (perhaps psychology generalist), and low-cost is subjective; even so, you may want to consider the UK distance route, as well as too think about the value of whether or not the program is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) BPS.

You can also consider Australian schools. In Oz, they follow the "big book" process for the Ph.D. (big dissertation, no courses), but they often offer "taught" (courses plus smaller dissertation) doctorates in applied areas. See:
