Wish me luck! I've applied to the National University MPH Program

I've just applied to the National University MPH program. NU obtained CEPH accreditation over the summer and the entire program can be completed in 16 months (1 course per-month, 2 months each for internship and capstone). No GRE required. They offer three areas of concentration (Health Promotion, Healthcare Administration and Mental Health). I'll likely choose Health Promotion or Mental Health.

I was also considering the University of Maryland - College Park Executive MPH program (mostly online, with 6 weekends on-campus throughout the 18 month program), however, the area of focus (Public Health Policy) is not really my cup of tea.

Now I just need to get used to hitting the books again (and this time with my 4-month old daughter and 8-year old daughter at home - 15-year old son visits on weekends)... Sleep?! Who needs it!

Much luck wished! And I like what I see of NU's program. What do you have in mind for the internship and capstone? (If this isn't asking too far ahead, but hey, that's kind of what this forum is for. :) )

Thanks! I kept talking myself out of attending NU as they are not the most prestigious school. However, they are a non-profit and have CEPH accreditation now, so why not?

I am hoping to complete the internship within my company (I work for a large pharma company). We'll see. I certainly can't take off for a month!

Not sure about my capstone yet. I have a couple of topics in mind, but I'll see where my studies lead me.

Just a quick update - I just spoke with my adviser today and I am all set to begin the National University MPH program (Health Promotion concentration) in April. My first course will be "Theories of Health Behavior", followed by "Biostatistics." I think I'll begin reading up on both topics (esp. biostats!) now in preparation.

    Cheers,

That's great! I'm also taking Biostatistics in May. Is Tweeten your instructor? If so, we'll be in the same class. My academic advisor made me nervous when discussing this class. She gave me the impression that some MPH students fail out of it the first time around. Let me know if you'd like to form a study group. I know I'll need all of the help I can get. I took a 4-week undergrad stats course years ago (also at NU) and I barely got a C!

I was actually able to start my first class in March. I just finished "HCA 600 - U.S. Healthcare System." The class was fairly interesting, but I wasn't exactly jumping up and down with excitement learning about health care finance and insurance regulations. LOL

Next week I start "Theories of Health Behavior." I'm really looking forward to taking that class as I've been a psych nerd since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. ;)

XVI.8: Confucius said, "There are three things of which the superior man stand in awe. He stands in awe of the ordinances of Heaven. He stands in awe of great men. He stands in awe of the words of the sages. The mean man does not know the ordinances of Heaven, and consequently does not stand in awe of them. He is disrespectful to great men. He makes sport of the words of the sages."

Thanks, Abner! I've just started my second class this week and so far so good. I'm getting psyched up for my upcoming biostatistics class. I have "Biostatistics for Dummies" on my Kindle app. LOL

I have been looking at this program for some time. I have thought about doing the MH concentration, thinking it would go great with my education . I currently have a MEd in Mental Health Counseling and finishing a MA in Forensic Mental Health and will be starting a PsyD in Clinical Psych this Fall. How do you like it so far?

Hi there, sorry for the delayed response. I have Eggleston for Biostatistics COH 602. Oh my, what a nice first welcome class for me huh? Not too comforting to learn that some students failed out of it the first time around but I'll try to be optimistic :) .I haven' taken a statistics class since high school years ago when I took it at a community college (which allowed me to skip it during undergrad). I tried to get some readings done today, as he posted the syllabus and class content, but I feel like I'm behind already and we haven't even officially starter class!

Sorry for bumping this up but I have questions for those of you who applied at this program and got accepted. I want to apply to this program and I'm wondering what the admissions process was like? Are there any additional requirements for admission to the MPH program that aren't listed on their website?

How are classes so far? Would you recommend the program?
