    Ph.D in Counseling

I did a search, but did not see this program before. It is also my first time seeing this program. Just in case that Liberty University 's Ph.D in Counseling and others don't work out. Oregon State University offers Ph.D in Counseling w/ limited residency. It is state school, but pricey as it requires 150 credits at $525.00 per credit.
    Ph.D| Nova Southeastern University (W/D)
    MPS | Georgetown University (2012)
MS | Southern Methodist University (2010)
    BS | Troy University (2006)
Cert | Marine Corps University (2008)

What do you mean? Have you heard something about LU's PhD in Counseling not working/working out?

Well, sometimes people are seeking for better institution reputation and/or public institution.

Gotcha. I guess your wording had me thinking that there was something wrong with the LU program.

The OSU program is CACREP and LU's is not. That being said, the LU program is 66 credit hours while the OSU program is 150 credits so the cost would be more than double for tuition. Travel would also be more as it appears their online component is twice each quarter. While almost all of LU's PhD courses have a residential component, they can be scheduled in back to back weeks once a semester.

Most likely the Liberty University program is 66 semester hours post-master's while the Oregon State University program is 150 quarter hours post-baccalaureate.

I checked. OSU requires a conferred masters degree but then allows you to apply those credits toward the PhD. So if you had a 60 hour masters, it seems that the OSU program would be 90 hours? Still a lot more.

Wouldn't that be an additional 60 semester hours? If you convert 90 quarter hours to semester hours it comes out to 60 (90 / 1.5). That would make it very competitive with the Liberty program.

When you're talking about degree programs that are desinged to aim people toward licensure there tends to be very little difference in regards to credits/curriculum.

University of the Cumberlands offers an EdD in CES with limited residency (I believe 5 days, each summer for 3 summers). Lindsey Wilson College offers a limited residency PhD, having to meet one Friday a month.

Please also note, that in order to enter into a doctorate in counseling (ces), you will need a masters and a clinical license in counseling . Also, please realize that in order to become licensed as a counselor you do not need a doctorate and in reality, a doctorate in counseling will only "help" you to get a job in academia.

I would adventure to state that neither are "post-BA." I would say that OSU will transfer in your credits from your masters (typically 60) and adjust the credits accordingly. I have never seen or heard of a true doctorate in counseling /CES being post-BA.
