Anyone know how some of these programs work? I've heard you could enter an accelrated program if you already have a Bachelor's, but are looking to become an RN? Any insight? I live in New York....thanks!
12-Month Accelerated Basic Baccalaureate Program for College Graduates School of Nursing - Onsite - 12 Month Accelerated Program Stony Brook University
Thank you. I was looking more at Community Colleges (Dutchess and Columbia Greene) because they're close to where I live. How do they work? Do they basically take my GE's from my Bachelor's and then I just have the nursing courses to take?
Sorry, I don't know of any associate degree programs that are accelerated. You basically have to go to a 2 year program. If you want to go accelerated 12 month BSN you basically have to commit to it full time + and not be distracted with employment, bills, etc. Very intense! As far as accepting general education credits, each school has their own policy on what they accept towards degree requirements. For the most part, they will probably accept a good chunk of it depending on a lot of things. How old is the coursework, did it have a lab component and so forth.
The coursework is just a year old and has lab components. As far as I can tell I'd really only need the nursing courses and A&P I,II. So I was hoping I could get it done within a year/year and a half. I guess we'll see! Thank you!

Hi all. So I decided to look into the local Community College programs and the one that would take the shortest amount of time doesn't have a flexible schedule at all. I need to work full time. Quitting my job is not an option. And I know there are very few (if any) online RN programs. I just can't seem to get a break with any of the schools. I have a non nursing degree BA already and really want to become an RN. Does anyone have any ideas? I feel like I've tried everything and am so frustrated! My work place does have tuition reimbursement for 9 credits per year at the SUNY tuition rate if that sparks any light bulbs. I'm willing to drive about an hour or so for classes if I have to and living in the Hudson Valley region. Just seeing if anyone else has been in the same kind of situation and figured something out. Thank you!!!
Sorry to hear your dilemma! Other potential options (Do the research because there are risks involved!): 1. Go to a local LPN program then do a LPN to RN completion program or consider Excelsior College LPN to RN challenge program (Caution: Excelsior College used to boast a 50% failure rate on the Clinical performance exam) 2. Go to an online EMT to Paramedic Program then get accepted into the Paramedic to RN challenge program at Excelsior College. (Have to google online paramedic - not many programs and usually requires some attendance for skills pass off, exams , etc.) Becoming a paramedic is just about as intense as nursing school! 3. Go to an online Respiratory Therapy program: (long 113 credit program) Respiratory Therapy Program | Associate | Independence University then go to Excelsior Resp Therapy to RN challenge program. (Check Excelsior College entrance reqs before pursuing!) Like I said before, the BS to 2nd BS-N/RN accelerated takes a full time commitment for 12 to 15 months! No shortcuts!!
