Question Ideas for a Masters.....Public Health or What else???

(Don't you just love planning for the future?)

    The year is 2012.
Obama has been elected for a 2nd Term.
    Gas is $6.
And BlackLabRat has enrolled in _____ to obtain a masters in _____.

I need to fill in the blanks now.

By the summer of 2012 I would have obtained:
    Education :
    BS in Biology from Excelsior.
    Graduate Certificate from MSU
    Professional Certifications:
Certified Medical Technologist in Microbiology (AAB)
    Registered Microbiologist (ASM/ASCP)

My professional goals are somewhat up in the air. I would like to end up at either a research facility, a state lab, or the CDC/any other federal entity.
I'm trying to think of a master's that will compliment me best. A masters in public health of course would be fine. I found an online program at American Public University for around $13,500. I also saw another graduate certificate program that sparked my interest (like, 90% sure that I will pay for this program), it is in Clinical Pathology ----> Clinical Pathology Certificate - UMassOnline.net

I'm thinking with my professional certifications and 2 graduate certificates my future self wouldn't need a masters. But if I could find a college that will accept the graduate credits that I already have and apply that to a masters I might go along with getting a masters in whatever.

Are there any masters for less than 10K via online or DETC? I call myself looking but I might have missed something. Maybe by 2012 something new would have came out.

I can't advise you on which program would best fit your needs, but I can give you one piece of advice on the schools you go to. If you would like to work in a research lab, you should go somewhere like UMass that is a B&M school. Avoid online only schools. A degree from an online only school is good for many things, but I'm pretty sure that a researcher would have to possess a degree from a recognized research school and not an online only school. I'm not sure that DETC schools would be looked favorably on.

Your certs, etc. will not get you far in terms of grad credits. Most RA schools will only accept 6-9 credits in transfer.

A masters in chemistry would not only help you in the 'medical' field but qualify you for jobs in many other areas including the aerospace, energy, and pharmaceutical industries.

Given your career goals, I would consider an online masters in biology, molecular biology, chemistry (or even pharmacology).
I've put together a list of online masters programs (primarily in biology) that may be of interest to you.
