Anyone in this program or been through it? I was accepted and they've started calling me. It all happened super fast. I'm not sure I've investigated it enough to determine if I should jump in yet. I have a BA in Psychology and an M.Ed in Education. I'd like to get a doctorate but since I want to get my license in counseling I'm not sure there's a degree path open for me to do that at the doctoral level since my Masters is in Education. If anyone has experience with Liberty program in Professional Counseling please fill me in. They also have 3 intensives on campus which I cringe at but could make work if need be. Thanks in advance!

Just be sure that the program will qualify you for licensure where you live (or plan to live). Then grit your teeth and jump.

I just completed an MA in Human Services through the counseling department at LU. Some of the classes overlapped with MAC requirements, so I may be able to help you.

Money? No problem! Just take out huge students loans and hock your future; that's what everybody does, so it must be a good idea. :hypnotized:

Yes, I agree with Kizmet. If you make sure the Liberty degree qualifies you for the appropriate licensure and if you are good with Liberty's interjection of biblical principles into almost everything, then Liberty will be a good choice. I love it.

I've already checked with Texas and yes you would be fine going to LU. LIberty also has a section that says what states you can use the degree to sit for the LPC exam.

You can enter the PHd in Counseling of Liberty University with your masters in Education. They will have you take some pre-req's in Theology and in Clinical Counseling before you enter the Phd. A friend was admitted to the Phd with a masters in Teaching. And depending on the state the Phd program could also satisfy the requisites for an LPC license.

LU is a good school and as I recall they produced an excellent booklet detailing most states requirements for licensure.

Ok... for whatever reason this post keeps getting deleted. I am beginning to wonder about the credibility of this board.

Liberty's Counseling programs are not CACREP-accredited, which means that you can not work for a government agency (DOD, VA) as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with their degree (although you could be able to get licensed in some states). There are online programs in counseling, however, that are CACREP-Accredited. See them here: Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs - Directory

Also... Liberty's PhD in Counseling is not accredited by CACREP, APA, COAMFTE, or any similar accrediting body. This mean no licensure and no teaching ability (in counseling programs). Liberty may be a decent school, but you should look into the specifics a bit more before fully deciding to go with them.

Now that that's said, again... let's see if my reply sticks around this time.

Liberty's Counseling programs are not CACREP-accredited, which means that you can not work for a government agency (DOD, VA) as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with their degree. You could still be licensed in some states, but many require a CACREP-accredited degree, and more and more states are starting to include it in their statues as well.

Also... Liberty's PhD in Counseling is not accredited by CACREP, APA, COAMFTE, or any similar accrediting body. This mean no licensure (unless you already have it from your masters) and no teaching ability in counseling programs or psychology programs. It would allow you to be a PhD, though.

Liberty may be a decent school, and the MAC may even be a good program, but you should look into the specifics a bit more before fully deciding to go with them. If it fits well with your goals, go for it.

New user's posts get put into a "waiting for approval" moderation mode as a way to cut down on spam. When you post three virtually identical posts in the span of about 10 minutes, you aren't giving the system time to work. We even have a nice post stickied for your reading regarding this particular topic.

Basically, be patient and wait for a mod to approve your posts until you get a few more under your belt.

Thank you. Sorry to flood you with the same post, under a new and old name. When I posted it the first time, it appeared as normal. Then it was gone when I came back to the page again.

My fault for not reading the sticky. Would you please delete the "tonyspeller" post, so the same information is not listed twice? Thanks.

1---I have been looking at some VA jobs and can't find where they show this....can you point this out to me.

2---Its most not some...the vast majority of US states accept LU for the LPC.

    Back to #1....

Here is a LPC job posting from the VA....

Each person is only allowed one user name. You need to pick one.

I would have just PMed you, but I want to remind other people of this when they see this thread.

Thanks. I choose this one. You can delete the other user. When I first made the name "tonyspeller" I had forgotten that I had registered a year ago.

Inaccurate information. I wasn't responsible for the deletion of course but perhaps it was justified. LU is RA. I am unfamiliar with DOD/VA requirements but I have provided contract services for other gov't agencies as an LPC and going to a non-CACREP school for my MA Counseling was not an issue at all. I supervise a number of LU MA Counseling graduates and each are in the process of licensure. I know of several PhD graduates who teach for higher profile institutions.

I recommend their program. I don't believe your assertions (or preoccupation with CACREP) to be accurate.
