Hey guys I am looking for a cheap Masters degree in Counseling / Counseling Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy. It doesn;t have to be 100% DL. I just need the degree to be able to sit for a LPC license and will complete the additional academic requirements locally. Any suggestions?

I have a suggestion. I suggest that you tell us where you live (since it doesn't need to be 100% distance learning).

Oh yeah, I also suggest that you scroll through our threads. There are only about a skagillion threads on grad psych degrees.

There are many options but I need to know the state in which you live so I can check their requirements.

You may want to look at Amberton University. They offer a Master of Family Studies. They just had a slight tuition hike, but they are still pretty cheap. $700 per course

I would suggest the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Although the degree is in rehabilitation counseling it should qualify you for licensure in your state, Its affordable and a good program. Dr. Bill Garner is the man to contact and it is 100% DL. It is RA and CORE accredited.

Unfortunately, this program isn't completely online... On the other hand, that may be a strength. I'm not sure your best counselors could thrive in a largely DL instructional modality.

Grand Canyon University offers a masters in counseling, marriage/family therapy as well as addictions counseling. In my perspective the degree is more of a "legal requirement" and does not necessarily convey a level of skill in counseling. I started off my career (without a graduate degree in counseling) working in a medium level secured correctional facility providing counseling and case management to offenders. After several years of work experience I got my masters in counseling. They could've just handed me the degree since I've been doing the work "hands on" for years but it's a necessary requirement in my state and it promotes professional development.
