    Hi,

I'd like to kindly ask for a little help. I've got a masters degree from European university in banking.

Now I would like to get another degree in Psychology from some US based university. Do I have to earn BA degree at first and MD afterwards? Or if I already another MD I should apply directly for MD study?

Any advice which school to pick for distant psychology study?

    Thank you,
    matt

When you say "MD" do you mean master's degree or medical degree? Also, what is the purpose of your psychology degree? To practice psychology or as a stepping stone to something else?

Hi mato - I have the idea that many European degree programs are quite specific. If I'm correct about this then it's possible that you've never taken any Psychology classes at all. This may not prevent you from being accepted (provisionally) to a US Masters degree program but the school may require you to take some Bachelors level courses to catch up to the curriculum. I'd be very surprised if the made you earn an entirely new Bachelors degree.

I'm affraid of that ;) I just had some classes in Psychology for managers, nothing else. At least I might skip some general courses like statistics that i already passed.

Hi Matt - While you're waiting for others to respond I'd like to suggest that you scroll back through our threads, use the search function because we've had many previous conversations on such topics.

Define good. At very least you want a school that is regionally accredited. Do you have any criteria beyond that? What is your budget? What are you looking to do with the degree? If you are looking for a degree that leads to licensure you may have difficulty finding a fully online option because there is typically a clinical component.

pug - we might need to cut this guy some slack. He's not from our neighborhood, ya know?

Matt - You asking about US degree programs? but you're not in the USA. There are lots of laws about how degrees are used, etc. You're saying that you want to be a psychotherapist? Where? In Slovakia or the USA? The details make a big difference. People are willing to help but don't make it too hard. Tell us the story. For example, why not in your country?

Have you considered Industrial Psychology? It's technically a business degree- and you might be more qualified in that area based on your bachelor's degree and your current interest in psychology. (especially if you enjoyed your psychology for managers class!) It also pays a lot more and doesn't require a license. Here is one program that can be completed partially or fully at a distance.

Just a heads up on terms- the master's degrees are usually MA or MS (and a few others) but MD in the USA is always "Medical Doctor"

Have you looked into the UK open university (if you live in Europe).
here is a conversion program that lets someone with a non-psych degree qualify to become professionally qualified (based on my quick read).

Since you already completed a few courses in managerial psychology and hold a masters degree in banking, how about a graduate certificate in industrial psychology from Northcentral University. http://www.ncu.edu/academics/cags/psychology_cags_industrial-organizational_psychology.aspx

Credits from the graduate program and possibly your banking degree can be applied towards a Psychology doctorate at NCU. You don't need a psychology bachelors to enroll in the program since you have a masters degree. However, NCU offers a masters degree in psychology with a concentration in general psychology, industrial psychology ...ect

You may want to take a look at Walden University and Capella University. Walden offers a certificate in organizational psychology. Credits earned from the certificate will transfer to the masters degree in psychology within the same specialization. The masters level programs offered by all of these universities I mentioned begin with introductory courses in psychology. For the course in test and measurements, I recommend you pick up a book on test and measurement and familiarize yourself with the material. I also recommend that you read an introduction to psychology book ( recent edition ) . You don't need a bachelors in psychology.

If you want a formal course of study at the undergraduate level in the US,
then take a look at Louisiana State University ( http://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?cat=Psychology&nid=102&pg= ). These courses are far more inexpensive than the graduate programs in psychology I listed above. Also, it will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with psychology subject matter that focus on a wide variety of topics like mental health, physical human development, and social development.

You could just do a second master's without doing a second bachelor's in the same field if you wish. It is also perfectly legitimate to go "backwards" a bit and take that second bachelor's before the second master's. Either way's okay.

If you're looking to gain entry into a top psychology graduate program, then having a BA or BS in Psychology will certainly be advantageous. With that said, it is usually not an absolute requirements to have a psych undergrad degree.

    Ted,

Thanks for this list. This is very helpful. In addition, Drexel University and Penn State University also offer online undergrad psych programs.
