Hi All! My wife is a Special Education teacher who is looking into Speech Language Pathology. There's apparently a huge demand for these in Virginia Public Schools (even moreso than SPED teachers). Virginia has a distance program in Speech-Language Pathology, but it's a cohort program and the next one doesn't start (IF it starts at all) until 2011. In your travels through the web, have either of you come across any other distance programs in SLP? Thanks, Matt
What level she is looking for? I assumed she is looking for Master level? Here are some of them East Carolina University - Speech, Language and Auditory Pathology - MS URL: http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/options/graddegrees.cfm Nova Southeastern University- Master and Ed.s in Language Pathology URL: http://www.nova.edu/cwis/disted/speechlanguage_ms.html Texas Women University - Master in Speech/Language Pathology URL: http://www.twu.edu/hs/comms/COMS_SLP_TETN_Program.htm
She already has a masters, but it is in special education. She would need another masters specifically in SPL. From what she's seen, you have to have either A) a bachelors in SPL or B) have taken a bunch of prerequisite courses to be admitted into the masters programs. Longwood University offers the prereqs online and she is registering for 6 credits in the spring. The prereqs aren't really an issue, but finding a grad program is being difficult because they seem to have cohort groups. If we lived in a more urban area, it wouldn't be a problem, but being out in the boondocks of nowhere, distance ed is the only option and there do not seem to be many opportunities. From talking to her, I think she's looking at Eastern Carolina simply because it is the school closest to us. At the end of the program they require a summer long residency, so being somewhat close to the school is important. -Matt
Here's another. This one's from CSU - Northridge. I didn't check but the CSU programs generally seem to be quite reasonably priced. http://exlweb.csun.edu/cds/
