Should I enroll in Excelsior online nursing program or traditional nursing program

I'm currently a military corspman and eligible for the Excelsior online nursing program, I spoke with a local nursing program and they said I have completed 40/60 pre-reqs for their accelerated BSN program. Is it better to finish with excelsior(Have already been accepted with them) or try a traditional nursing program? If I go the Excelsior Route these are the pre-reqs that I will need: 1. a&p II 2. Human Growth and development 3. Take and pass 7 nursing theory examinations 4. Pass CPNE. I have been in the military for 19 years and plan to do 30 years and would like to get my nursing liscense. If Excelsior have already accepted me into their nursing program, should I try and finish their program before I retire, instead waiting until I retire and hope I get accepted into a traditional nursing program?

Here is what I would do if I were in your shoes.... I would work towards the EC nursing degree. First, I would take the Clep or Dsst Developmental Psych., then take A & P II either online, exam or classroom. (Remember most BSN and Nursing Master's degrees are going to require the A& P to have had a lab.) Then take the first 2 nursing exams. You can take all the EC ASN prerequisites and the first 2 nursing exams without enrolling. Once you do enroll, however, the clock starts ticking. Every year until you finish you will pay an annual student fee, and you have a total of 7 years to complete the whole program. The letter says you have six months to enroll based on this evaluation, but it is not the end of the world if you don't you will just be out another 75 bucks for a reevaluation. Try it at your own pace that way your inching towards that goal. If a better scenario presents itself, you could always ditch this one.

Thanks for your response it seems this will better than waiting to see if I will be accepted into a traditional nursing program. I will finish my masters next year, after that I think I will work on pre-reqs.

I completed the distance learning RN program 11 years ago. I say go for it, there are some limittions on getting licensed in specific states such as california, washington, Texas ect... if you dont mind having some restrictions on where you can work go for it.

I checked with the Texas board of nursing and they do accept EC grads, Texas is were I plan to retire. Question: When you completed the Online RN program was it through EC, and how were you accepted by the employers?

I have no excuse not finish this program, because if you are in the military which I'm in, you can take all nursing exams before you enroll and for free. This is off EC website:
    Attention: Prospective Nursing Students
Excelsior College's nursing program is one of the largest and most respected in the US. Our faculty is continuously evaluating and reviewing our curriculum to ensure its relevance and currency in today's health care environment. This focus led to the academic policy, effective October 1, 2001, requiring our students (with the exception of military personnel) to be enrolled in an Excelsior College associate degree in nursing program prior to registering to take these associate degree nursing examinations: Nursing Concepts 3, Nursing Concepts 4, Nursing Concepts 5, Nursing Concepts 6, Nursing Concepts: Foundations of Professional Practice, Essentials of Nursing Care: Chronicity, Essentials of Nursing Care: Reproductive Health, Health Differences Across the Life Span 1, Health Differences Across the Life Span 2, Health Differences Across the Life Span 3, and Transition to the Registered Professional Nurse Role

    Thanks
