Online Accredited School for psychology ..and more ...HELP!!

Hi everyone, I am happy I found this website. I am planning to start an online bachelors degree soon and I can use any advice anyone can give me.
I am a 22 year old, college drop out and I was very close to getting my associates in psychology, but stopped due to economical reasons. I am no longer living in the US, (I just recently moved to Greece) . I am trying to find an accredited online university that is offering programs worldwide.
At Masters' level, I wish to do a concentration in Counseling, so I want to be sure my school is accredited. I am very nervous about starting an online degree. Would it be hard for me to find a job after? I am not sure how people view the online degrees. What are your opinions on online degrees in psychology, can anyone give me some information, any experiences you might have with online universities. What is the difference between DETC and RA ?
I don't understand why people doubt online universities so much, reading all this stuff online is making me nervous . Not everyone has the time and money to invest and attend a university , I wish I could but I can't. I was a student in a very well known college in Boston, and a lot of our psychology courses were available ONLY online, due to not having enough faculty. So I can not understand when I receive replies from other forums that insult those who wish to receive an online education in psychology, when now well known universities offer degrees online.
Anyway, I am impressed with the 2 following schools..
    1) CityU.edu-very-pricey, but I really like their programs,
    2) www.calcoast.edu,--i find it very affordable, not sure about DETC?, love the ability that i can study at my own pace and able to finish my degree any time i want. I have read terrible and good things on google about CCU, but most are outdated. What is ones chances of being employed coming out of CCU with a bachelors in psychology, and a masters in science in psych?

Also , I am starting a teaching position in January, (as an AIDE) and I was considering taking a teaching assistant program to get some kind of introduction, has anyone taken this course or anything from Penn Forester or Penn State?
If anyone knows of any other colleges that offer psychology programs worldwide feel free to send me a message or reply.
Any advise will be appreciated !! Thank you very much for your time!!

    Euphoric,

You have a wonderful resource right here on www.degreeinfo.com

You can do a search on your requirements for a school.

I did one on undergraduate psych dl programs with no residential requirements. Hope the link works:

Also, I would recommend you sign up with a school that has the highest level of accreditation. If it is the USA then that means Regional Accreditation. This way you have the least amount of problems later.

Peru State College offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology online. Tuition is only $130 per credit hour. The college is regionally accredited.

You may also try Excelsior College.
    www.excelsior.edu

Courses from Lousiana State University, Adams State College, Peru State College, Clovis Community College may transfer to Excelsior College for a BA or BS in Psychology.

Adams State College offers a research methods course. It is classified as a sociology course. However, it may satisfy the research methods requirement for the BA/BS excelsior psychology degree

    Advantages of Regional Accreditation
    over DETC accreditation

    - Greater acceptance of transfer

    - RA graduate degrees are standard

    in K-12 and college
    - RA undergraduate degrees are most
    accepted for entrance to graduate
    schools in the US.
    - An RA degree is the standard

    professional US licensure in
    psychology, counseling, and
    education ( school counseling and
    school psychology )
    - More options for financial aid

    thank you...

Hi, thank you very much for your replies.

I would most likely benefit from a school that is regionally accredited, but those tend to be pricey.

What could be the worst case scenario of a graduate from a school that is accredit by DETC only?
I would hate to have put time and effort into something, and no have it go to waste. But I a big part for me wanting CCU is how cheap it is.

The possibility of not being able to become licensed might be the worst case scenerio if that is your goal, but that varies by state. My state only lets RA grads with practicum credits sit the LPC exam.

Thank you ALL for your replies! I have had the most success with this website, but the only problem I have is with the search engine. It does not work properly for me, everytime I try to search I get a blank page, especially when I am searching for colleges.

Maybe it is because I am on dial-up. It is driving me nuts, but DSL is not available in my area yet.

I finally figured out some important things, such as the difference between RA and DETC. It looks like I am going to go with Peru State, their tuition is very affordable and they are RA. Although I really like CCU, I do not want to take the chance of not finding a job later on , or not being accepted to a masters program..(with my luck by the time I am done with Peru , CCU will be RA)

If anyone has any more information on Peru State, or their experiences, feel free to PM me. I was trying to figure out if you can study on your own pace ,or even how long Peru's classes last, but their website makes my computer freeze.

Even though, I am currently unemployed, I am struggling to find a job so I can start with Peru State College, ASAP.

Luckilly, I have some savings so I can afford the program from Penn Forester.

I just wanted to updated you guys on my decision, and once again Thanks DegreeInfo .

It seems there are many regionally accredited programs available online and through independent study.

I don't know too much about the University of Phoenix BS in Psychology program, but it just started in September 2006. You might want to contact them to get a feeling for cost and transferability of what you have already completed. I've taught for the UOP online campus for several years, but I don't know anything about the new psychology degree.

Another clear alternative is a school such as Charter Oak, and you could take your classes from several different universities. LSU Baton Rouge and BYU have several psychology courses that could be taken. There are many more schools listed in the DANTES catalog offering independent study:

    http://www.dantescatalogs.com/CounselorDisclaimer.asp?Catalog=DISC&CameFrom=DISC/DISCNav.asp

In sum, you're in luck; there are many programs available. You'll need to take your time and find the one that best fits your needs.

    Peru

    Hello,
I am in my third semester at Peru and have had no issuses thus far. I've taken around 36 cr. or so there already. Most of the classes I have taken are psych or criminal justice related but I have had some humanities as well. Overall I really like the school! I would be a good shill for them since I have had nothing but postive there so far. The school is very small so keep that in mind as you'll have a lot of the same professors for the concentration classes. I had never even called the school until recently. I spoke with my CJ professor and we had a great chat for around half an hour or so. Tuition is on the cheap there so get it while its good! They recently went up this year like $12 a cr. I think. They also just added another graduate degree program as well - MS in Organizational Mgmt. They have both terms and semester classes. Most of the foundation humaities classes are full semester based. Most of the major classes are 8 week terms with the exception of research methods and the capstone course or senior seminar course. If you get decent grades there they will also offer scholarships! I received one this year for $300 which , hey even though it isn't much it covered books! Anything you are interested in knowing, PM me.
