    Good Evening All,

I am curious if anyone can provide a list of well known schools that offer graduate certificates in the healthcare administration area of expertise. I am currently working on my MBA with emphasis in Healthcare Administration at NCU and have nothing but great things to say about NCU. However, I am working towards a commission in the Air Force and feel that some, when they look at my commissioning package, might question where my degree is from. From my experience when I tell "higher ups' I am getting an MBA from an online school they pretty much stop me in conversation so I can't even get regional accredited out of my mouth. So I figure if a big name school is on my package with NCU's MBA it might not look so bad to some of the individuals who think distance learning is crap. Any information provided is much appreciated, I have never posted here before but know this forum provides high quality information to those who seek it.

Thanks Guys for the quick response. I checked out the link and found the Healthcare Risk Management Certificate to be pretty intriguing. I'll keep my eye open for more posts. Thanks again for your quick responses.

That would be me! I am in the first of the 3 classes for the Risk Management Certificate. One book covers all three classes. So far-so good.

Speaking as someone who has been doing healthcare risk management and claims defense for over twenty years now, the UF risk management certificate is one of many programs in Florida that satisfy a 120 hour training requirement to become a licensed risk manager. A licensed risk manager is, as far as I know, unique to Florida. The licensure requirements are not unduly rigorous, consisting of either the course or two years of college, or some other certifications or one year of healthcare risk management experience.

This certificate, in and of itself, without other experience or training, will likely not qualify you as, nor make you employable as a risk manager. The certificate and license may be of some benefit if you plan to work in Florida, but is not really known or recognized very much outside of Florida.

If you are truly looking for a nationally-recognized risk management credential, the CPHRM from the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management is the closest thing currently available.

Not exactly true. Here are the licensure requirements- http://www.fdhc.state.fl.us/MCHQ/Health_Facility_Regulation/Risk/documents/Web2_10v02A_AdminCode.pdf

Randell, as I read the entire document you linked, or the actual licensing application, which I reviewed, there are a number of ways one can get the necessary qualifications for licensure, as I mentioned in my message. It is correct that the document you linked goes into greater detail as to those various pathways.

It does go into great detail. I spoke to someone form the state and there are additional requirements beside the 120 hour program.
