Psychology: Open University or Oscail?

    Good day, everyone.

I've decided to obtain a Psychology degree via distance learning. Since I originally am from Germany I circled out two institutions, both being (almost) affordable for foreigners and quite near to my homecountry, so that face-to-face tuition will be possible if needed: The Open University and Oscail.
However, I would like to ask for some advice before I make my decision. Thanks a lot for taking the time.

The degree I would gain from the OU is a Bsc (Hons) Psychology, while Oscail is offering a BA Humanities with a Psychology Major (as I understood it). Since I would like to have the opportunity to do a Master's degree in addition, will the missing (Hons) of the latter restrict me from that at UK/Irish universities?

The OU seems to have an excellent reputation. Oscail, however, offers degrees awarded from Irish Universities. Will an OU degree be less recognized than one awarded from a "real" university with normal admission requirements standards?

Thanks a lot for helping me with this decision, once again.

    Marie,

The Open University is well regarded as one of the world's premier distance learning institutions. I doubt you'd have any problems with one of their qualifications. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with Dublin City University -- I'd think either is fine.

Of more importance would be that DCU/Oscail is not currently enrolling students for their undergraduate programs. If you're interested in moving forward now, it would seem that the Open University is the only one of the two available.

    Good luck,

    Hello Steve,

thank you very much for your reply. I will do some more research on OU's reputation here in Germany, but I've seen some example study material and it really looks like this would be an interesting route to take.

    Best wishes,
    Marie
