What is the cheapest grad degree in Psychology

I am looking for an MS/MA in Psychology that does not require a GRE, 100%DL, and accredited (RA prefered but NA is OK).

I am looking at CCU at $165 per credit. Any suggestions?

I spoke to CCU and they require a BS in Pys. or 5 years experience in the Psy. field. It looks like I can't go there.

    Randall1234,

My impression is that the University of West Alabama's MSCE in Counseling /Psychology may waive the GRE or MAT if you have a Master's already. If memory serves, you don't need a psych background. It's relatively inexpensive - somewhere in the $8K or $9K range. A downside is that the MSCE designation might cause a little headscratching. An upside is that it is RA.

Wow. Ya know Randell, I think it's good when people ask questions but you've put a lot of conditions on this search. Do you think that anyone actually knows the answer to your question? It not only has to be a 100% non-residential Masters degree, it has to be RA, it has to NOT require a GRE (would the Millers Analogies Test be OK ) and it has to be the least expensive!!!
Do you care about the color of the graduation robes? :D
Do you care about the font on the diploma? :D
    Just checking.
Seriously though, I don't think anyone is going to know the answer to your question(s). However, if you do some homework you could figure it out yourself (which is usually better).

The robes must be yellow with purple racing strips on the side, I don't care about the font on the diploma but is must be a purple diploma to match the robe.

    Thanks for the links-

Do you want a gold seal, an embossed seal or a stamped wax seal with ribbon on your diploma?
    (The purple part was easy!)

    Ted,

You are truly the baddest searcher around.

Where did you learn this stuff?

    Seriously.

I what to know. Did you take a course or something?

I need to sharpen those skills and you seem to be the master.

Normally, when I post lists of degrees, I check out the subject index of John & Mariah Bear, _Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning_ (15th edition); hence, all the BG15, XXX's indicating page numbers in BG15. Sometimes (but not always), I might also check: Marcie Thorson, _Campus-Free College Degrees_; Matthew & April Helm, _Get Your Degree Online_; _Barron's Guide to Distance Learning_; and _Peterson's Guide to Distance Learning Programs_.

If you're looking for professional licensure, you might check your state's requirements. I'm not sure what the official distinction is between "psychology " and "counseling " but apparently, in the state of Ohio, counselors can practice with a master's degree while psychologists need the doctorate. The real bummer there is that one needs an MA in Counseling (NOT Psychology ) to sit for the counselor's licensure exam but one needs an MA in Psychology (NOT Counseling ) to get into a PhD program in Psychology .

    Masters in Psychology

    Randell,
According to your signature, you are enrolled in a Ph.D. program at NCU. Why do you want a Masters in Psychology ? Are you asking for yourself or someone else? Just curious!
    Good luck with your search.

    Hey

I was, and plan to continue my enrollment at UWA (After my MFA work at Queens U of Charlotte).
UWA has a great program and my advisor has been wonderful. I think it's your best, cheapest, RA bet. The problem may come with the fact that most states that do allow a master's holder to practice independently require 48 grad semester credits for the degree. UWA is a 33 credit program.
The Miller Analogies test is really more like a fun word game than any kind of actual examination. I predict that You'll score in the high 70's on this one without even trying too hard. And, if a person can't get at least a 45 on it, and English is their first language... well, they may well need to consider another route.
Another poster here is enrolled at Capella in the doctoral counseling program (Blackbird maybe?) and he may be able to help here. The masters program at Capella is a more expensive option but a more marketable one (probably).
Always happy to help a fellow COSC alum! :-)

Liberty University used to (may still) allow students to take extra courses before filing for graduation, thereby making their 45-credit Counseling program a 60-credit one.

Would that approach work for UWA?

    I have copnsidered that

Yeah, that seems to be a good idea. Kinda limited in the choices in the actual "psy" designation, but the counseling section has a bunch.
If you are looking for just psychology credits, 25 seems to be the limit here. along with the 12 credit core bit.
