Hi, I was wondering would anyone know about a online or correspondence BA or PharmD program that is totally by distance. However it needs to be recognized in the United States or Canada by hospitals etc... Also one that does not require you to have previous college credit etc my mother is a Pharmacy Technician at a small pharmacy and basically she want's to study to be a pharmacist at the moment all she has is a diploma from a community college and is state registered. Any information will be highly appreciated.

    Thank You.

Unfortunately the majority of programs listed in Bears guide are post professional programs for individuals who are currently licensed as a pharmacist. Most of the programs in the U.K. are to specialize in an area of pharmacy, and the American PharmD programs are for those individuals who completed a bachelors in pharmacy when the new standard is a doctorate. I think the last 6 year bachelors in pharmacy program ended in 1996 but don’t hold me to that exact year. Creighton is the only American pharmacy program that will train you to become a pharmacist that uses distance learning. I am not sure of Canadian programs

I looked into Pharmacy about a year ago, and Jeremy is correct. If you are starting from scratch and do not currently hold a bachelors in pharmacy, then Creighton is your only option via DL. It is a bit pricey, but it's a great school.

creighton is a great school. Their program is DL, but there is a clinical component that may require some travel. This makes a lot of sense - one must have some hands on, face to face training to become a pharmacist. Regards - Andy

"The clinical component of the program requires 8 five-week rotations. five rotations are in required subject areas. The remaining rotations are in elective subject areas. These unpaid rotations provide experience in actual pharmacy practice. Sites for rotations are in a variety of locations throughout the country, with some international sites. New sites are being constantly identified and developed. It may be necessary for students to travel to sites during at least a portion of the last year, depending on the availability of suitable rotations in their location.
    "

    from the Creighton website.

    Regards - Andy

I would say that you have a better chance of getting into Harvard Med School than you would Creighton's distance pharmacy. My little sis graduated from Creighton with the PharmD about 3 years ago. She said that due to Creigton being the only school with a distanance PharmD that they receive thousands of applicants. You will need a bachelors or be one smart cookie with about 3 years worth of credits. My sister did what they call the 3 and 3.
