A Ryokan College representative indicated that several of their graduates from their doctoral program in Clinical Psychology have been accepted for psychology licensure in the states of Washington and Pennsylvania. This is interesting because I was under the impression that the degree was only acepted for licensure in California. It appears, although not substantiated, that this degree may also be accepted for licensure in other states as well.

Although there are specific disadvantages with earning a psychology doctorate from a state approved shool, for the practitioner, who for diverse reasons was not able to obtain a doctorate, and who wishes to reference themselves as doctor in California (and perhaps in several other states), this program may meet their professional needs and goals.

Ryokan's online doctoral program is a two year program that is course based. These courses are offered online twice a week and taught by faculty. This distinguishes it from SCUPS psychology Ph.D progam which is more of a correspondence based program with no online classes. The cost of Ryokan's program is hefty, $30,000, while SCUPS is approximately $11,000. However, Ryokan's students' pass rate on the national psychology licensure exam is actually higher than many students from regionally accredited California clinical psychology programs.
