    Hi folks,

Let me just thank you for the valuable information I found on the discussion board. That is simply great.
I just got accepted to UoL/LSHTM for a MSc in Health Systems Management, as I am a newbie in the DL field, was just wondering is there any other student enrolled in the same programme? Just wanted to get some info about it, to wit, some personal impressions and anything else that might be useful for me.

    thx

Degreeinfo member Alex has been doing the Epidemiology MSc, also with lead college being the School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is the lead college for three M.Sc. degrees: Health Systems Management, Infectious Diseases, and Epidemiology. I'm in the epidemiology program; am currently working on the "project report," which is basically a scaled-down thesis.

The epidemiology program has mostly computer-assisted learning (CAL) classes, meaning that you have an interactive CD to help learn the material. The epidemiology program also has a very active web board where you can interact with tutors and fellow students. The web board has sections for the HSM and ID classes, though these are not monitored by tutors. The HSM and ID classes (and a few of the epi classes) are paper-based, meaning there are no interactive CDs.

I have been extremely pleased with the quality of the epidemiology program. The classes are interesting and well-designed. The Distance Learning support staff are quick to help you find answers to inquiries. The computer based aspect really helps with the epi classes. I've taken one HSM class as an elective. I missed the computer support and the extensive web board interactions, but the paper-based study guide was excellent and the course was put together very well. There has been some talk of introducing more computer assisted learning throughout all of the LSHTM distance classes, but am not sure of the pace with which this change will happen.

I think you will enjoy your study program very much. My recommendation would be to set a schedule for your work and keep with it so that you don't fall behind. Also, interact with fellow students in the web discussion boards as much as possible.

    Congratulations, and good luck!

    Alex
