Does anyone know if UNISA or any of the other SA universities offer the Psy.D. by distance? What about any reasonably priced Australian schools that might offer a Psy.D. without residency? Just curious

As always, I hope to be corrected if I'm off base:
    1. I think the PsyD is a uniquely American degree and you won't find one offered anywhere else in the world.
    2. I don't believe that you'll find a reputable school anywhere offering a doctoral degree (whatever its designation) in clinical psychology without a residency.

Keep looking, it's bound to turn up sooner or later.

I would like to think so Jack, but I have done a pretty exhaustive search and can't find one. None of the Aussie schools, according to law (or so I am told) can offer a PsyD without a residential component.

UNISA was/is working on a non-residential PsyD to be rolled out in July. According to one of the profs I corresponded with last year. However, I have an email - see another link - where UNISA is not accepting Masters or PhD by research at the present time.

So, if anyone finds a reasonable (less than 10,000) that is totally non-residential, please let me know I am definitely interested.

But, even then if it is not APA approved it will be virtually useless in the US of A. The APA will see to that.

    PsyD degree through DL

Hello Bob- We seem to be on a similar search for PsyD degree.

I have also done an extensive search and the only one that has not been mentioned would be Grant University. www.grantuniv.com I stumbled onto it by accident and if anyone knows anything about this school feel free to enlightened me.

First, its not accredited and does not claim to be. Their standards seem moderate to me. They do seem to make some effort to require a measure of competency,i.e. exams, etc.

I believe they are just initiating the PsyD program which will not require a dissertation. Cost is about $3,000.

Warning: it has some of the "signs" of being 'degree millish'.
But then, one man's(persons) degree mill is another man's non traditional program. Check it out and let me know what your impressions are.

ps. Do you have any additional information on the UNISA situation re: PsyD?

Save the $3,000 and print your own diploma on your computer print shop. They will be worth about the same. A couple of points: very few PsyD require a dissertation - they are not terminal degrees; secondly, to sit for licensure in most states the degree must at least be RA and in some states the school must be APA certified; and thirdly, all schools that I know of require a residence, internship, and practicum.

So, save the $3,000 or send it to me and I will send you a REAL DIPLOMA suitable for framing, heck, for that I will even frame it for you.

Degree millish = naw, couldn't be because they don't say they are.

Just read the site: They are located in Clinton, Mississippi, however, they cannot issue degrees in the State of Mississippi. Is there something wrong with this picture.

Two exceptions are California and Colorado. It is possible to become licensed as a clinical psyc. in these states with a CA state approved doctorate in psychology.

    PsyD

Yes, quite right. Grant U. sure looks suspicious if they can't grant degrees in their own state.

I did issue a warning. Wasn't it strong enough?

A PsyD degree can be done through Calamus International University. But I don't think I will even mention it now:eek:
