I'm looking for a research based PhD in psychology. The field that I am wanting to research requires the use of functional neuroimaging, so that may limit the choices considerably. So far in my search, I have been told to look in the US because it leads the way for functional imaging. However, I am not aware of any research based (British model) PhD's in the US.

RA, or its equivalent, is not absolutely required. However, I do want to be able to perform and submit to peer-reviewed journals, so the degree must be credible to the academic and scientific communities. Licensure as a clinical psychologist is not a requirement.

    Does anyone have any leads?

    Thanks,
    Dale

I think that the closest you're going to get within the US is the doctoral program at Union Institute and University as these are independent or "design your own" programs. Otherwise, it's the British, Australian and South African universities that do the dissertation-only style programs.
