This is not a total surprise. When I first used TA through the NAVY it covered 75% of tuition up to a certain cap. Books and other fees where your responsibility as well. Aligning with other DOD policies makes sense as well. I would love to see TA stay at 100%, but in this political season it is not reasonable. The GI bill is another option for Active Duty personnel through Top-up or bypassing TA and using the Post 9/11 GI bill directly. The downside of using the GI bill while active is that you do not receive MHA (Military Housing Allowance at the E-5 rate). However, you do receive up to $1000 in book stipends depending on the course load.

    I agree.

Fiscally, this was a good decision by the DoD.

This is an unfortunate thing but this is how things are going cuts and so forth.

We should be helping our veterans and those that serve our country. Everyone should be treated fairly and no one should get preferential treatment over another. Those that serve our country should be treated well.

Why do you think tuition assistance needs to be eliminated entirely?

I didn't say that tuition assistance need to be eliminated entirely. Where did you get that? Did you read my post? I said that veterans should be treated well.

I read your post and quoted it before you edited it and completely changed what you wrote.

My apologies I didn't mean to eliminate tuition assistance for veterans. I meant to say that the government should eliminate programs that are a waste of money. This to me doesn't seem like a program that should be cut.

It seems that our government cuts programs like these that are beneficial to those that serve in the military and I don't think it should be cut, but other programs that are a waste of money those are the ones that should be eliminated. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think that educating veterans is a waste of money.

My daughter was looking at the Navy. That's sad.
