Hey guys I've been reading this site for a long time but took the plunge to register as I had some questions (and hopefully will now be able to answer a few myself going forward). Specifically, I'm an ex-Investment Banker. About 25 years at Tier 1 institutions, have done business in 28 countries and lived in five, American by birth I currently reside in England and have done so since 1997. Dutch wife, no desire to return to the US. I've got a MBA General Management (University of Hull, 2010) and an MSc Quantitative Finance (University of Westminster, 2002) as well as an Undergrad in Math and Computer Science (USA, 1980). I started my MBA part time in 2005 but in 2008 left banking to finally finish this degree. I had been teaching Econometrics part time since 2003 at a University here in London, something I really enjoyed and, while finishing my MBA, picked up a few more hours and long story short when I completed by MBA in 2010 decided I'd had enough of banking and wanted to teach full time. I haven't had a problem finding work due to the relatively arcane nature of what I'm teaching (in addition to an Econometrics course I've added Risk Management, a Trading & Analysis course, a few other courses and I tutor dissertation students who are pursuing Capital Markets oriented topics) but have seen how the academic system works and so would like to take a terminal degree. I was in touch with Walden but they wanted me to (re)take Reseach Methods, something that I felt was unfair as I've got a very solid MBA and MSc and in addition they wanted me to take several "core" classes and so haven't progressed with them (fine institution by the way). Ideally I'd like a programme that would let me just get on with the research, no core classes, no comps, etc. Already have a very solid topic in mind, and could create a research proposal relatively quickly. I asked in another thread about Monarch Business School University For Graduate Studies in Management - Monarch Business School but thought I might raise the broader question here, as well as introducing myself! So how about it: Doctorate / DBA / DPhil / terminal degree, minimal time (I like Monarch's three year programme), no comps in the middle, viva at the end is ok, minimal annual residence and ideally less than $50K. For point of reference ISM in Paris is a good match but runs about 70K Euro, maybe / $80K. And yeh, a school that will work with non US residents as, it seems, most who advertise here won't. There are two or three main choices. The British, Australian and South African doctoral degrees are all research oriented meaning that you write your research dissertation and then you're done. The British and Australian programs are priced about the same as the US programs but they may tell you that you have to go to the campus to defend your dissertation. Doctorate programs are available in many disciplines in the various universities and higher institutes of Australia, London and some other countries that demonstrate the student's ability to perform advanced work in the selected field of study.
