    Hi everyone,

I joined a while ago but have not had an opportunity to post until now. I completed my undergrad degree online while living abroad in Japan, and now live in snowy, beautiful VT.

I hope to have/contribute to many great conversations on this board.

    Best,

    T

Was it at a US school?

    Welcome aboard!

Since you have already completed a DL degree, your insight will be invaluable. Also, if you have another degree that you would like to work on in the future, let us know and I can promise that at least one of our members can steer you in the right direction.

    Happy posting!

Hey there. My degree was through Bellevue University in Nebraska. I had separated from the military and was teaching ESL abroad without a BS, and Bellevue was the only school (at that time. much has changed since then.) that would transfer all of my previous AAS. I don't have a lot to say about the course I took, other than I think that I worked way too hard compared to what I saw from my classmates. I ended up with a 4.0 GPA... but looking back on my work now as a graduate student... I'm not too proud of that 4.0. I learned a lot though... and that's what was important.

Anyway... I don't want to turn this into a Bellevue thread.

Maniac, I do want to do another degree in the future... and am considering a PhD in Family Therapy once I finish my current degree. There are a few distance MFT PhDs, but none are COAMFTE-accredited. I'll be on the lookout, though!

That's something I've been thinking about doing here in Texas.

I was looking into a MFT title. Parents are both in counseling so, it runs in the family. I am not sure which university is right for me, I have been pursuing a journalism degree, but I am not really passionate about it, so I was hoping to make the switch to a field where I can help people. I need to find a university that will accept all of my unfinished AA credits. One of the counselors here suggested that I can work consultant job with a BA in psychology as an outside "counselor" prior to having earned my MFT, is this true?

Hey Jay, Bellevue transferred all of my AAS credits (61), which meant that I only needed 66 more credits to graduate. My major was made up of a 12-month 30 credit block (one class per 5 weeks), there was a 9 credit ethics-type course ("American Values") which took another 3 months, and the rest of my credits were electives that I was able to finish with CLEP & DSST tests.

A BA in psych will not allow you to use the title "counselor" professionally, but it would allow you to work in a variety of settings where you could perform low-level counseling duties, such as working for Boys & Girls Town or as a Mental Health Worker/Tech on inpatient or residential psych units. Currently there are no online schools which offer COAMFTE-accredited Masters degrees in MFT... and this is something that many states require for licensure as a Family Therapist. You may want to research this pretty well to find out which path is best for you.

I don't need to turn this into a Bellevue thread, but I would love to share my thoughts with you here if you are interested :)
