Hi all! I am new here and was trying to decide what next step to take in my journey to a degree and I am thrilled to have found this site! I currently have 12 credits from a CC and 24 credits from University of Phoenix that are tied up as I owe them $600...will pay in a couple months, but in the meantime I was getitng frustrated thinking there was nothing I could do until I pay them off. Then I found this site and discovered that I can take CLEP tests without being enrolled in any college - SWEET! I figure I can knock out at least a few of those in the next several months and then I can pay off UoP and go to a better (for me, not meant to offend) online university. I'm thinking American Public University, but I'm not sure really. I think this site will help me make the decision.

By the way, I'm in my early 30's, am a wife, mother to three (ages 12, 10 and 8 months) and I work full-time. I have a great paying job and like the company I work for, I am just very career-limited without a degree and because of that I want to pursue one in the quickest way possible.

Thanks to everyone for posting on this site - your information is invaluable!

Welcome to the site. There is a whole host of information and easy (sort of) ways to complete an AA/AS with CLEPs. If you just want to CLEP out of an AA/AS, there are three main schools (referred to as the Big 3) - they are Excelsior, Thomas Edison State College, and Charter Oak State College. Best of luck to you

Ohhh...Cool I see your in Texas! You need to check out Lamar University and UT. Both have great in state rates. Lamar is part of the Texas State university System and has the lowest in state rate at $450 a class.

Great to know on both counts! I was just reading the article on the front page of the site about Charter Oak State College - I would LOVE to CLEP out of an AA/AS...didn't even know such a thing was possible! And I will definitely look into Lamar University - $450 a class is definitely a great price!

Thomas Edison makes it fairly easy to use a combination of CLEP/DSST/TECEP and ECE exams, with a very generous transfer credit policy. You could have a BA in less than a year with a good plan and good study habits. I did 29 credits in 5 months while working full time and taking care of my family obligations. A year of out of state tuition is abou $4K and even FEMA credits transfer in for free.

    * Foremost CLEP results in academic credit that can be applied toward a degree that may be required by employers for some positions.

    * Secondly it gives you a educational credential that might help you beat a job candidate without any educational credentials (Resume: I have passed College Level Exams in Math, English, Business, or other pertinent exams - download and carry typical exam questions with yo to the interview). I would certainly look favorably on a job applicant who had passed CLEP and/or DSST exams.

    * And CLEP/DSST exams can save you time and money on route to your degree.
