Hi there, I'm Dray. I will have 80 credits at the end of this semester. I will be taking 30 credits in CLEP and DANTES. I think at 19, I am doing pretty good as far as college. I do plan on going for my masters and (if they have it available) a doctrine (thats what you call it right?). I was wondering on what certifications are valuable to have. I belive that Six Sigma (Black Belt) is good to get and PMP (Project Manager Professional) as well. What others are good to have? If you know of non-business certifications and licenses that are good to have, tell me V/r Dray
Congratulations on your academic achievements so far. However in my opinion gaining a six sigma or PMP certification should be accomplished after several years of work experience. If I received your resume I would dismiss these qualifications unless there was adequate related work experience. In any case some industries do not put weight in these two qualifications (The aerospace industry in which I work). What degree are you looking to earn and what field do you work in? If you are interested in quality I would suggest looking at this one from Cal State University Dominguez Hills: http://www.csudh.edu/bsqa/ If you do not know the field in which you want to work I recommend maximizing credits in math and English - two areas important to most organizations. BTW I have never heard of a doctrine as an academic award.
Probably meant doctorate. Dray, what do you want to do with your degree(s)? Or, as one of my seminary prof once asked me, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
I would like to look into business ownership. I want to pursue a degree program that can "teach me how to run a business".
Then you're probably going to want a Business Degree in Entrepreneurship, or even a more generalized business degree... There are a ton out there, you just have to focus on finding the program/school that fits you. Good luck!
Here's are a couple examples to get you started ... you might want to consider ... American Public University (APU) has their Bachelor of Business Admin program which offers a concentration in "Entrepreneurial/Small Business Management". $250/credit, allows up to 90 credits to be transfered in.: http://www.apu.apus.edu/academic/programs/degree/15/bachelor-of-business-administration/29/entrepreneurialsmall-business-management#concentration Ashford University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Entrepreneurship, $354/credit, but allows a maximum of 99 credits to be transferred in: http://www.ashford.edu/online/degrees/baedetails.php Thomas Edison State College has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with an "area of study" in entrepreneurship ... I am not totally sure but it looks like the charge about $485/credit but they will let you transfer in all (or almost all?) of your credits: http://tesc.edu/2155.php There are probably plenty of other options out there as well.
