Regarding degrees, is there a difference between "business management" and "business administration"? In the old days, the business degrees were called "business administration," but today, the popular term seems to be "business management." Just curious.
Yes, there is! Of course there is a difference-the emphasis is clear inthe question. Once concentration is on BUSINESS (economics, marketing, organization, strategy, etc, etc) and ADMINISTRATION emphasizes the more managerial aspects of what goes on in the organization/business and how it is administered to bring about the business aspects/concept, etc. AJJ
Re: Yes, there is! My degree is in business management and I had all the courses that you listed (economics, marketing, organization, strategy, etc, etc), so I presume that you were saying that this particular concentration is in "management"?
Interestingly, Harvard University offers a certificate that is in business administration and management, so the student gets the best of both worlds, whatever that difference might be. You can have it all at Harvard!!!
Management vs. Administration Hello Everyone, Business administration basically focuses on preparing students for the decision making roles within an organization, and Business management focus is on management aspects:improving communication, productivity, effectiveness and efficiency and aligning resources, basically, implementing the decisions made by administrators. Thanks, Derrick
Ditto if we are talking about degrees. However, many schools offer a management major in a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program. On the other hand, many schools offer a BA or BS in Management that is indistinguishable from a BBA.
Hmm. There were four posts from September 2003. Then me again resurrected the thread in January 2007, after three years and four months dormancy. Then, dallen (a newbie with a whole whopping one post) resurrected it yesterday, in April 2009, after two years and three months dormancy.
Management in all business and human organization activity is simply the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals. Management comprises planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing, and controlling an organization or effort for the purpose of accomplishing a goal. The business administration is a study course introduces you to subjects such as economics, accounting and finance and comprises a third of the degree scheme.
