Can someone give me a few schools that have online/distant learning courses in Medical Assisting of some sorts. Not to expensive and would prefer diploma or certificate, just wanting to get started.

I don't think you will find any lower price than Penn Foster College, and this is for a full associates degree as well. http://pennfostercollege.edu/medicalassistant/index.html
http://www.blackstone.edu/ Hi, Try Blackstone Career Institute (BCI), $826 (Everything Included) and their is a monthly payment plan option also. The program is a Certificate program in Medical Office Assisting and the certificate program is Regionally and DETC accredited. I took the Paralegal certificate course with BCI. Regards,
This is strange. I do not see Blackstone listed on www.chea.org or http://www.msche.org/institutions_directory.asp?txtRange=b as regionally accreditied although they claim to be?????
That is strange as this is their profile on the DETC site: http://www.detc.org/school_details.php?id=242 According to their site, their regional accreditation is only for secondary(High) school level learning.
It is probably because their programs are not credit earning programs, but rather CEU's. Penn Foster has the same accreditation for their diploma, certificate, and high school programs.
Blackstone CHEA and Middle States Randell1234, Here is the direct Link to Blackstone at the CHEA site http://www.chea.org/search/actionInst.asp?CheaID=8532 The school is listed in CHEA as Blackstone Career Institute (BCI), Allentown, PA AND The direct link listed in Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools (MSCSS) http://www.css-msa.org/search.php?MODE=VIEW(PA583)&org=CSS The school is listed in MSCSS as Blackstone Career Institute (BCI), Allentown, PA. Bottom line, I liked the paralegal program even though it will not help me advance in my present career as a Nursing Executive, it was inexpensive and accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Regards,
What I found strange was that Randell1234 did not find the listing for Blackstone in the CHEA database, as you did, and that I did find the record on the DETC site.
Blackstone is listed in the CHEA database as DETC-accredited; here's their listing. As of this writing, there are only eight institutions accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools that are listed in the CHEA database; Blackstone is not among them. Of course, the MSA-CSS (MSCSS) accredits more than eight schools altogether; there must just be a subset of these offering programs considered higher education under the ambit of CHEA. Maybe Blackstone is in this subset but the MSA-CSS hasn't updated their records to reflect this, or maybe they are not classed in this subset. Though here's a listing for a provider of online paralegal certificates that is so listed. I would guess it probably hasn't been updated. The accreditation came in November 2006. A third possibility would be that the CHEA database system can't account for multiple sources of accreditation, but here's one listing for Western Governors University that includes two sources of accreditation, and a second listing that includes one other. Say, that first listing mistakenly has them accredited by a community and junior college division, and the three accreditations on two pages is messy. Also messy is the treatment of the concurrently regional and DETC American Public University System; there's an entry for APUS listing it as regional alone, and entries for each of the AMU and APU badges more properly including both accreditors. So CHEA could do a bit of work on the cleanliness of its database!
