"The data, experts say, suggests that if Harvard were forbidden to use race as a factor in admissions, the Asian-American admissions rate would rise, and the percentage of white, black and Hispanic students would fall." https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/02/us/affirmative-action-battle-has-a-new-focus-asian-americans.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0 Why does Trump hate white people?
for the first time in it's history, the majority of Harvard students are non-white Harvard University's 2017 intake 'majority non-white' for first time - BBC News

This is what spurred the DOJ: A coalition of more than 60 organizations accuses Harvard of holding Asian-American applicants to higher standards than black and Latino applicants. Lost in the debate is that colleges have long sought 'diversity' of one sort or other: Last summer, the Court ruled that the University of Texas-Austin can consider race as one factor among many in college admissions.
I have heard (unofficially) that there are universities that have to apply affirmative action standards to males in order to prevent the school from becoming overwhelmingly female.
AA has always been a problem but it's next to impossible to get it's proponents to care about the plight of white people. When we start talking about Asians, however, all of a sudden the same arguments against AA hold merit. Sheesh. uppy_dog_eyes: If it's true that AA is being implemented to prevent colleges from being overwhelmingly female, then I'd love to know how much of that has to do with AA overwhelmingly favoring females for scholarship and grant money. It's harder for men to find aid for college, on the whole, so I'd expect that men would be more likely to find another way to succeed in their careers than to pursue university degrees.
Because it is, genuinely, hard to care about the plight of "white people" as a group. We are doing fine.
Tell that to the multitude of white males in Boston who couldn't get on the police or fire departments due to AA, being passed over for minorities with lower exam scores.
Hiring based on skin color is illegal and discriminatory. Affirmative action was struck down because it is unlawful to hire a person of color, based solely on the color of their skin. Conversely, it is illegal to deny employment to a white person, based solely on the color of their skin. But that's saying the obvious.
There is no "we". Pharma Bro's kids don't even remotely belong in the same category as kids from trailer parks in Appalachia. That's why any non-merit preferences should be by socio-economic class and not by race.
It was a very good year for city girls Who lived up the stair With all that perfumed hair And it came undone When I was twenty-one
"But now the days are short, I'm in the autumn of my years And I think of my life as vintage wine From fine old kegs From the brim to the dregs It poured sweet and clear It was a very good year." (By Ervin Drake, 1961. First recorded by Kingston Trio. Most famous recording: Frank Sinatra.) J.
