Power Line Paul Mirengoff July 30, 2017 Princeton University is looking to hire an “Interpersonal Violence Clinician and Men’s Engagement Manager.” In addition to providing clinical support for the men at Princeton, “[t]he Manager will develop and implement men’s programming initiatives geared toward enhancing awareness and challenging gender stereotypes…” If you want to apply for the job, you had better be a leftist. Two of the “essential qualifications” are: (1) a “Masters or doctorate in social work, psychology, women’s and gender studies, public health, or related graduate degree,” and (2) “ab[ility] to balance strong commitment to social justice with a capacity to navigate complex organizational systems.” More... Princeton to “re-educate” its male students | Power Line
I heard about this last week, and thought it was totally bizarre. To serve as the "Men's Engagement Manager" they want somebody with a degree in "women's studies"??? From the article... Sounds like a call for some modern-day brainwashing, just packaged with a nice PC wrapper. Something is seriously wrong on many of our most well-known college campuses. I can't help but feel that the damaged people are these administrations and not the students they're seeking to treat.
Princeton is a private university, so they're free to do whatever they want. However, they're doing their students a tragic disservice by trying to brainwash them into an alternate reality that doesn't exist outside of the campus.
The distinction between public and private diminishes with the rate of infusion of government dollars. To coin a phrase, who pays the piper calls the tune.
"That's a nice endowment ya got. Shame if you'd have to use it." Maybe they would get by but then they'd have to do without some of the niceties.
Top level policy makers frequently are graduates of elite institutions who retain a strong sense of identity from their alma mater. (It's like the old joke, "How do you know someone went to Princeton? They'll tell you.") I don't see that sort of federal strongarming of those sorts of institutions.
I used to work for a tech company that had a strong hiring preference for recent grads from elite schools. I'm pretty sure the joke could apply to all of them.
