I know there was a thread long ago about worst/weird school names, but I wanted to take a stab at worst looking websites. Below are four of the worst that I've come across. Southwest absolutely takes top prize for worst accredited school website by a large margin. 1) Southwest University (DEAC): Welcome to Southwest (Looks like it was built as a high school web design project in 1997 and then forgotten about even though it's actual an "enhancement" (used very loosely) over the fuzzy graphics they used before) 2) Taft: https://www.taft.edu/ (Wholly generic and stuffed full of old stock photos) 3) LBU: Louisiana Baptist University & Seminary (God love 'em... even though this website is actually an improvement from before they just can't seem to get it right. This looks like it was patched together on Wix using various pieces of former website incarnations). 4) Apollos: https://apollos.edu/Default.aspx (Lazy design, full of stock photos, and that logo... *shudders*... Looks someone who couldn't dodge a spear)
I think that the NationsUniversity website is, uh...subpar? Check it out: NationsUniversity | Affordable, High Quality, Christian Education (Kind of looks like something out of the 90s)
Once upon a time the UNISA website was virtually impenetrable. The organizational scheme of the site was impossible to decipher and even though there was lot's of valuable information on the site it was difficult to figure out how to get to it. It's quite a bit better now but legend of that website was so strong that even now people think of it as an obstacle to admission.
Another worst list could be - the worst DL experience. I am not very creative so looking at those sites I am having a difficult time saying why they are bad.
The Heriot-Watt site was like that when I looked. I eventually dug out the bone I was looking for but after a period of chasing my tail.
The funny thing is that this actually an upgrade. I was on this site barely a month ago and it looked nothing like this. I see that they still have a link to the merchandise site which is apparently still has stock from 1991 judging from the current offerings: https://ecomm.taft.edu/Taft-Law-School-Merchandise_c_10.html
City Vision University's site isn't great; City Vision University: Get Your Degree Online in Business Administration, Addiction Studies Counseling, Christian Nonprofit Management or Urban Ministry & Missions for Only $6,000/year
I've always been a real stickler on logos in that I belief the logo should state and/or reinforce your brand. The problem with many companies today, including universities, is that logo makes no immediate sense. City Vision's looks like the 3D rendering of a new age mailbox. These logos are often some esoteric thing and some places, like Northcentral University, spend a lot of time explaining things that, to me, shouldn't warrant such an explanation: https://www.ncu.edu/download/styleguide.pdf With its emphasis on multiple colors coming together and interacting, this mark calls to mind the multifaceted nature of higher education: teacher-student interaction, diversity, the pursuit of learning and more. These elements combine to make the university experience what it is: unique and memorable. The two overlapping shapes on either side of the flame represent the one-to-one mentoring relationship between student and teacher. The flame in the center of the logo symbolizes the fire of enlightenment produced by education. The combination of the conceptual mark with traditional and modern typefaces creates a melding of the progressive and established. Effectively none of that comes to my mind as I look at the logo not even when I realize it's for a university.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Capital YES. It was so bad ( in the beginning 2009-2011) that I had to have Michael Esselen help me pay my tuition. Now, it is much easier ( I still have obstacles each year) when paying my tuition, but they are minor compared to before. http://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default
