Not a lot of surprises here. I would swap Providence and Savannah. I've spent more than a little time on Federal Hill and the people there are very down to earth. Also, once again NYC beats Boston (but we're going to keep trying). http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/americas-snobbiest-cities/2
I've lived in three cities on the list. I understand Boston ranking so high. But I don't get Nashville and Charleston. I don't find either of them particularly "snobby". Oh, and they lost all credibility when they said SNOB is the new hot spot in Charleston. That place has been big since the early 2000's, Husk is where people go to be seen now...if they can get a table.
I love Boston and don't find it to be the least bit snobby. I guess I'm hanging out in the good places. With the welders.
I've never been to Boston, but my impression has always been that it's a working class city. Welders and dock workers sounds about right, and drunk Irish Catholics. But not snobby.
Depends on where you go. Southie and Charlestown is being gentrified by young professionals but definitely still has the working class element. Beacon Hill and Back Bay are the uppity neighborhoods (residents like John Kerry in the former and Tom Brady in the latter). The South End could probably be lumped in there now as well. Overall, it's a great city. Way better than NYC.
I've been once about a year ago. The head chef just opened a Husk location in Nashville and apparently it's taking off as well.
I used to travel to Charleston about 2x a month for a year then 1x month for about 2 years. I find the people to be pleasent and the food great. There is a dessert place (Kaminsky's) that had huge desserts and great coffee. I have not been there in years. I have been to San Francisco and never really liked it. I lived in NY (Queens and grew up in NJ on the other side of the Lincoln Tunnel) and I loved it.
Interesting, San Francisco made the list of best places to be a hippy, and top of the list for snob. That is a little hard to believe, I will go with the hippy one, but not the snob. And then where was Tiburon or Sausalito where they check your license plate entering and leaving.
