I am currently attending UOP and I am done with group projects. I am tired of doing other people's work or getting a low grade because of someone else. I like the essay based learning style because I find I learn and retain the information better when I have to write about it because I have to understand what I am writing about. For tests I just memorize material and forget it after a short time. So I am looking for an accredited online school that is essay based and does not have group projects for every class.
OK, so maybe you can calm down a bit and tell us a few things about your background, your goals, what academic area interests you andwhat degre level you're pursuing and maybe we can answer your question(s).
Welcome to Degree Info tigerlillycat06! I think we can help you! I agree, I hate the stupid group projects. Unfortunately, I think most online schools have some collaborative assignments. I've attended 5 different online schools and all but 1 had a few of those although they were few and far between. It seems like Northcentral University did not have any, if I remember correctly. On the brighter side, all of those schools except National U, did not have many online tests. Most of the grading was from research papers and similar projects. By the way, here's why your posts don't show up right away: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html Sometimes you may have to wait a few hours. _________________________________
You might want to take a look at Peru State College. It's the oldest institute of higher learning in Nebraska and none of their courses require exams or group projects. All of your grades are based on the assignments you do and the papers you write. As an added bonus, PSC is about as cheap as they come, too. Peru State College
Interesting. I facilitate several UOP courses and none of them having group projects (which I hate as well).
Most of undergraduate classes require exams, while graduate degree requires writing more less exams. I don't know if this is the norm, but rarely any schools out requires written assessment verus examination. I would recommend Troy University, I had great experience with them. Other schools mainly on essays include Capella University and Northcentral University.
I found the individual courses (if carefully selected) at CSU-Pueblo Con Ed courses to be very light on testing and heavy on writing. They do have a couple of degree programs. At the Masters level WGU is almost exclusively writing based in the MBA and MSN. In the MBA you have a single 4 week group assignment for the Leadership class...mine went fine.
Exactly...one rate, any state. PSC is one of the best deals in all of higher education, IMO. Here is a link to their online offerings... Distance Education - Peru State College
WHat do you teach? My daughter just graduated UOP with her Associates degree and she didn't have any group projects. I am getting my Bachelor's degree and I was told that every class has a group project. I have taken 4 so far and all 4 classes had a group project.
Unless your employer or rich aunt is covering your costs your getting gouged for degrees from a school with...at best...a questionable reputation. I urge you to find alternatives that are NOT UofP.
Answer to your question. I am trying to get a Bachelor's degree in the Information Technology field. I am currently getting one in System Security. I work full time in IT, I just want to get a BS degree in my field. I already have myAssociates degree.
Peru State College offers a BS in Computer Management and Information Systems. http://www.peru.edu/academics/docs/program_sheets/CMIS.pdf
I am paying for it myself. I just can't see paying the amount of money I am currently paying to have someone else cause me to get a lower grade from the group projects. It is frustrating to say the least.
WGU might have the occasional group project...but they will tend to favor industry certifications and other measures. They have plenty of IT offerings Online IT Degree | Information Technology Bachelor Degree | WGU College of Information Technology This is a better respected and far FAR cheaper alternative. I believe the undergrad tuition (which includes most if not all study material) is only $2800/semester...and that includes an unlimited amount of credit earned based on how quickly you can prove competence in the coursework. To WGU a semester is 6 full calender months...and you can start on the first of any month. You should give them a serious look. You may already have some of the certifications and coursework done...if so finishing might be far closer than you think http://www.wgu.edu/online_it_degrees/information_technology_degree The "big 3", especially TESC could be an option as well....but that would entail a lot of exams to complete cheaply...but I doubt there are any group projects. I really feel like your maybe not asking the right question...part of the education equation is helping you learn to deal with others, hence group projects will pop up from time to time. just be sure your in a place that properly facilitates the projects and oversees the student interaction. I just completed a group project in my MBA but it was managed in such a way that even if the rest of the group failed I would have been judged solely on my performance. UofP has issues, lot's of issues...I'm not surprised in the slightest that you had a bad experience.
Other options....all better choices than UofP Expensive..but it's Penn State! Penn State | Online Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences and Technology | Overview Around $350/credit, but a decent name brand Online Information Technology Degree - IT Bachelor of Science Program Get educated has a long list, i'm sure one fits your criteria. I just checked out Peru State University. The sample onlibe classes all state that they have tests and quizzes. Are you sure that they are essay based?
